Hi, i'm new to the forums, and to overclocking (sorta, i've tried video card o'cing and memory o'cing as well).

I'm asking to see if Thoroughbred-A cores have the same results as T-bred-B cores when overclocking. Also, if my idle is 49'C and 54'C load, is it a good idea to overclock it at all?

    Current setup:

    AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (Tbred-A)
    Thermaltake Volcano 8SE
    FIC AU13 (nForce2 SPP/Ultra 400) mobo
    512MB PC2700 generic memory (2-3-3-6)
    GeForce FX5200
    Seagate Barracuda 80GB
    350W Antec SmartPower

**edit** btw, i plan on getting a Volcano 7+ or 9. any opinions on which one to choose?

The Thoroughbred A's are a poor overclocker when compared to the Thoroughbred B's but they will overclock some though I'd highly suggest that ya get those temps down before ya do.

Well my XP2200+ T'bred A tops out at 1940MHz and ya XP2000+ is likely to get fairly close to that but with the Volcano 7+ (medium speed) on mine it's runs at 40C under full load with a room temp of 20C. With ya mobo though it shouldn't be to hard to drop the multiplier and take the FSB up to 166MHz with that PC2700 memory that ya have.

teehee.. i'm also planning on getting a better case (mine has only one ventilation thingy in the front, and plus the power supply is adjacent to the heatsink, creating a negative airspace rite above it. gonna crank up teh speed of the fan to high

btw, do i need any voltage adjustments to get it to around 1900? or 2000?

THATS when i get my stuff, however. =/

I upped mine 0.1v over stock to get to where it is but more didn't help and only created more heat.
