    Hey I was wondering what CPU stepping was. And what is the full stepping on the Athlon XP 2500+ Barton chip.

    When people refer to the stepping of a processor, they are asking about a code used to dtermine the manufacturing process. This can sometimes make a difference because newer stepping codes have internal enhancements that can make it easier to overclock.

    Asking what the full stepping is for a Barton is a moot question as the explanation above should help you understand. :)

    Steppings are revisions made to the core of a processor either as bug fixes or just to improve performance.
    The pic below shows where to find the stepping (those 5 letters).
