    hey everyone,

i have a xp 3000+ (400mhz fsb version), and i would like to overclock this chip a bit. Raising up the FSB, i cannot get very far before prime95 reports some errors. So i was thinking of increasing the multiplier from 10.5x to 11x or possibly even higher if it would let me -- is this chip unlocked from the factory? I have read different things -- all bartons are unlocked, you need to short two pins, all bartons are locked? Which is likely true? I bought this chip about 2 weeks ago from newegg. The multiplier options are there in bios, but i did not change them -- what would happen if i changed the multilplier and the chip is locked? Just clear the cmos and restart? Sorry for all the n00b questions i just want to make sure i know what is going on .. oh, i am running at stock voltage still, but i think i can support an increase, i have a thermalright slk900a and a vantec tornado fan (controlled, bc its too damn loud :D), and mushkin levl 2 pc3500 (running at 3200 speeds bc i cant get fsb to 216mhz)

All T'breds and Bartons are locked but the nForce2 chipset of your mobo can get around that easily. Increase the core voltage by 0.1v and then step the multiplier up by 0.5 but as your CPU is close to the top of the food chain its unlikely that ya'll much of an overclock out of it. Good luck.
