    I have read a few articles on AMD Mobile porcessors recently where close-up photos have been taken of the "steppings" What are they? Anybody know?

    Simply put, it is a means of identifying the manufacturing process used to create the chip. As improvements or enhancements are made to the process used to make the chips, a new stepping code is assigned. These enhancements may allow for better overclocking or simply a more stable system. Certain stepping codes are noted for their ability of having better overclocking success, so this is why many folks make mention of them.
