Thread: P4 2.66 won't overclock

    Default P4 2.66 won't overclock

    I'm running an Intel P4 2.66 cpu on an Asus P4Pe mobo with 533fsb and 2 sticks of Crucial 512 / DDR 333. My video card is an ATI 8500LE - 128 mb DDR.
    The problem is I go into the mobo bios and it will not let me change the cpu settings. I heard that retail versions of Intels have locked cpu's. Is this true. And if so...
    1.) Why does Asus offer overclocking on their P4 mobos? AND;
    2.) Are there any other options to overclock my pc?

    Only the multiplier on your CPU is locked (nothing else). When you go into the Advanced section of the BIOS you must change the CPU Speed from Auto to Manual to make adjustments to the frequencies and voltages (memory timings are simimlar where SDRAM Configuration needs to be changed from By SPD to User Defined) plus this is all detailed in your mainboard manual which is why they pack them with mainboards.
