    Default Overclocking Applebred Duron 1.6ghz

I got an Applebred Duron 1.6ghz which runs at 133mhz FSB at clock multiplier of 12. Now, I have a really nice cooler, which supports up to 3200+... Now I want to raise my FSB to 142.. which will give me about 1.7ghz... I heard that if you OC your FSB your expansion cards will get messed up... Is this true?

And is OCing my FSB a good idea?

Depends on what kind of cards you are using and how much you increace the PCI bus, they usualy have locks so you cant up them by uping the FSB, unless you choose to, As for the effect on them I have had no problems with mine at 238(200 stock) so you should be fine at that overclock.

Ok thanks Amd_Lover. ANother question since I am a newbie in overclocking, is the 1.6ghz to 1.7ghz jump going to be noticeable?

Not realy unless you are doing some editing of some kind, what exactly are you doing with that machine? Some games rely on CPU more than graphics and it works the other way as well, you wont see much increase in any case 100MHz is not a large jump at all, my A64 runs 2.2 stock and I am running at 2.6 right now. there is a noticable diffrence but it takes some know how and practice and the proper hardware to do this right, that will have some more overclocking potential, if your mother board can give it out.

See if you can find the motherboard model number and ill see what you may want to shoot for.

I've overlcoked it to about 1.73ghz. Which is about 144*12... I had no problems. I can tell the machine boots a lot faster now. Its my main pc.

Good now make sure your temps are good, make sure the dont go to high, last thing you want to do is melt it lol. Did you need to raise voltage to get to this level?

How muck RAM you have in there and what kind?

Ok thats good, its up to you if you want to go any higher, if its working for ya and you dont need it any faster for the time being, then leave it. How long before you are thinking about a new system if in the near future?
