    Default Athlon 3000+ Venice OC

OK, I've managed to OC the FSB to 285 Mhz, which gives me ~2.56 Ghz on the CPU (9x multiplier). I've got the memory running at 260 Mhz with 2.5-3-3-8 timings. I've raised the vcore to 1.55 V, vdimm to 2.8 V and everything's stable, both in Prime and memtest 86+ and 3dmark 06. The thing is, I'd like to go even further, but to do that I'd have to raise the Vcore even more, and the next step is at 1.65 V, and that feel kinda hefty for an aircooled cpu. My idle temps are around 32 degrees C, 45 at load. Oh, and I've lowered the HT multiplier to 3x.
I'm using an Cooltek Auras 92 to chill the proc.
While I'm at it, what's a normal temp for an nforce 4 ultra chipset? I'm getting 69-72 degrees, and I'm guessing the reading is faulty.

Doesn't your motherboard go in steps of .05 or .025?

It does, until you reach 1.55 V. Past that, the voltage goes up by .1 V increments. This is why I'm hesitating.

I'd try it at 1.65v. I doubt it will burn out or anything. If the temperature gets too high, either leave it at 1.55v or get better cooling.

OK, I tried raising the voltage, but I think the mobo is the limiting factor here. It did reboot, but it halted at the harddrive detection in POST, and a couple of horizontal lines showed up across the screen. Bummer.
I guess 285 Mhz on the fsb is good enough, unless you've got some other ideas? I'd be glad to try them out.

Can you raise it to 286 without the voltage increase? I don't care whether it's stable, I just need to know whether it will post.

It did post. But just so you know, I've tried raising the fsb to 290 without the voltage increase, and the same thing happened with the odd lines.

The motherboard probably doesn't support past 286~ish. That's my guess though. I'm not an avid overclocker.

I would say it's probably a board limitation. It's not like you're going to be suffering at those speeds anyway. I'm stuck at about 2.5GHz on my 3000 due to a similar limitation, but I'm okay with it for now.

I guess 285 fsb ain't that bad, especially with this board. Thanks for the input though.
