    Default E6600 overclock/overstress

How much will overclocking an E6600 to 3GHz shorten the life of the part, assuming a motherboard which delivers stable, accurate voltage and a good cooling system?

Not much, but there's no way to tell for sure. I've seen CPU run for five years with equivelent overclocks, though. Generally, a processor will be obsolete to the point of being virtually useless by the time it dies, regardless of overclocking

I know a guy that runs an AMD64 3000+ Venice (stock 1.8GHz) @ 2.9GHz @ 1.7V Vcore 24/7 for the last year and a half with no issues at all. As long as you properly cool a CPU it will outlast it's usefullness for certain.
