    Default o/c qn

ok. i have overclocked my system to 3.2 Ghz per core as described in my siggy. but any higher than that and i completely lose the SATA drives in my bios which kinda screws the system and makes it unbootable. is anyone aware of a way around this that will allow me to make it run fastern without replacing the mobo which i cant be bothered to do yet? before anyone asks i ahve more than adequate cooling on my cpu.

Make sure the PCI-E bus is locked @ 100.

i dont have an option for locking it. i can turn off the clock sync function but thats not the same as locking it to a certain frequency. do you have any experience with this mobo?

Turning it off cause the PCI-E bus to unlock and follow the FSB, so that must not be the issue. BUT, I do know that most 945 chipset boards max out around 325-350FSB, so I think you are just at the boards limits. Not a bad board for hte money though, even dual card capable.

It's a shame that your mainboard isn't one of the C2D compliant ones otherwise I'd just suggest a CPU change but either way you'd need a mainboard upgrade to get better from that CPU and also to be able to upgrade to a C2D based CPU after you've found out how inefficient your current CPU is (sure it'll overclock but the power/performance ratio is well off the scale compared to other solutions that are currently available).

im gonna have to disagree on what you said about the cpu, its a brilliant cpu for the price in every way. only cost 70 quid. and can be made as good as a lot of other modern chips.
