    Default Overclocking + General Questions

    Hello,

    System Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+
    Clocked at 2560mhz
    Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 mobo
    1GB DDR-SDRAM PC3200 clocked at 200mhz
    NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
GPU bandwidth is set to turbo in BIOS.
    400W PSU

I would like to know if there is any possibility to improve my performance or overclock.
Everytime time I try to overclock I cannot get it to boot into any operating system. I am supplying enough power and still getting slow performance in many games such as call of duty 2 in which my FPS is in the low 20-25's on normal setting. This is usually the same with any game.

Does my +12V rail showing 11.09V have to do with this problem?

How would I best tweak it for maximum performance?

    Thank You.

2.6GHz is more than I'd expect out of the processor, especially with your PSU. Your PSU's 12v rail is sagging because you're drawing way more power than it can handle reliably.

Your game performance may have to do with your resolution. What resolution do you run CoD 2 on? Also, you could try upgrading your video card drivers?

In any case, your processor speed won't affect game performance much. It's more than powerful to handle that video card.

    I'm running COD2 on 1152x864 with 30-40fps, when I lower to 1024x768 i get around 40-50fps.
Video Card drivers are ForceWare Release 90 ver: 93.71

I believe there is an option in bios to set voltage level..?

You should probably be able to get better performance with that card. Do you have a lot of applications running in the background?

There's no option in the BIOS that will fix your power issue. You can reduce voltage on the processor or RAM, but then you'll have to reduce your clocks. Most 400W PSUs aren't well-suited to run a system like that at stock voltages, much less overclocked.

Absolutely no unneeded applications running in the background whilst I'm running COD2.

I've managed to get a peak of ~120fps but is generally around ~40-50 with all qualities on low and an 800x600 resolution.

If I would upgrade my PSU to a 480w model would that happen to improve performance seeing as how I cannot get the desired voltage as is?

It might. It would allow you to overclock your video card, which is what needs to be overclocked for you to see performance improvement.

    Thank You.
to be perfectly honest your lucky its running with that much voltage drop, get a bigger PSU yesterday

On everest it says that my +12v is 12.54 but on asusprob its +12v is 11.9 which is correct and what would be better.

A digital multi meter never lies unlike ALL software that reports voltages. Never trust a program.
