Default after overclocking the graphics driver stops

Hello, hope somebody can suggest some ideas/advice. Currently I'm running my
E5200@ 3.31ghz (stock) Vcore 1.1500v, arctic freezer pro -temps 28idle/35 load
    FSB 265x12.5
    6gb (3X2, soon to be 4X2 8gb) DDR2 Kingston Hyper X 1060 in bios with DDR2 overvoltage +0.05v -timings 5,5,5,15
    X48 DS4 (updated bios)
    800w PSU
Antec gaming 300 (2x exhaust fans, 2x intake fans (includes a fan blowing on the GPU) very good airflow
    4850 Sapphire 512mb OC 700mhz/1080mhz) temps 35 idle / 60-64 load (with crysis).
    XP 64-bit

The above settings are rock solid and seldom cause any crashes. However, I was curious how much I could push the cpu so I tryed:

280x12.5 (3.5Ghz) DDR2 Kingston Hyper X 1120 (I've even tryed to underclock it ,but the graphics driver still crashes) increased Vcore to 1.1562. Boots to desktop without a problem, every game I play either crashes with the usual exe file not responding - "do you want to send the report etc" or the ATI prompting that the graphics card drivers are not responding - these appear while the game is about to start, sometimes 1 minute in. If I resort to the former (above) settings then the games go back to functioning 100%

Anybody got any ideas what it could be?, or what could I do to try to remedy it - perhaps I hit a brick wall who knows, any advice is very welcome.

    Thanks Robert

Make sure you set your PCI-E Bus to 100Mhz in the BIOS

So, Let me just ask, If you set everything back to how you had it "Stable" its all sweet again? You havent stuffed anything up? If so then I guess you just have an unstable overclock which im sure someone will be able to help you further with. Its Possible that you may need more volts on the Core? It doesnt seem like you have bumped it up much. Its MAX volts ar 1.362 volts so you have a long way to go. Dont go to extreme but try lets say 1.2vcore. Just to see if it helps any? Otherwise Ill stand down and let some more experienced Overclockers take over.

Try overclocking the CPU with the GPU @ STOCK, But Id say its may be vcore holding you back as 3.5 is a fair hike in frequency from stock. 1Ghz to be exact and thats gotta use more juice. Its also possible that you are at that Wall. But who knows. You can only try.

Its not from stock , I got the the CPU at 3.31Ghz at stock Vcore thats not the problem < thats rock solid, when I increased the CPU to 3.5Ghz I increased the stock by a notch from 1.1500 to 1.156 boots no problem, but games forget it. I even underclocked the ram still same problem , I also decreased the GPU timings , still the same problem.

But going back to your original question Nimrod, yes its rock solid at stock and 3.31Ghz (see the timings a few post back) so is the GPU no crashes or overheating. But I will try what you suggested, I'll report back - cheers.

Yeah Then Id really be trying the increase in CPU vcore. Take it to 1.25 even for your first attempt if that doesnt work then, going any higher would not be worth the gain in proformance to life of your CPU. 1.25 should see you stable if its gunna work at all, If not, either a) be happy at 3.31 or b) save up and get a better CPU, but I think at that speed your pretty right. I know that with my E8500 from stock 3.16 to 3.8 I cant tell a bit of difference in anything really.

I tryed increasing the Vcore to 1.2 at 3.5Ghz - better, but I'm still getting ATI box popping up saying "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands" after reseting goes back to the action, in this case Call of Duty 5. So if anybody knows about this - please let me know. In the mean time I'm going to follow you advice Nimrod I'm going to stick with my 3.31Ghz Oc settings etc, and your right I coundnt see much difference anyway. But I like to know why the graphics card driver resets itself at this frequency, even though I went back to the GPU stock speeds, O'well I guess thats the pit falls of overclocking.

Yes it is just one of those things. Ok so the next step is to start to bump up other voltages. You could also run memtest 86+ v2.11 over night to make sure your memory is sweet at those clock speeds but I would bump up your PCI-E Volts a little and maybe your NB and whatever other volts you may find there related. LSDMEASAP Has a pretty good guide to overclocking on here, and Im sure if you googled or search this forum you would probably find more detailed specs for your setup that would work. I just cant remember what all those other volts are called but yeah try tweakting them up slightly. proabably only need a .1 or .2 maybe on PCI and what not. Try it man. Otherwise Try and PM LSD he should be able to help.. Im going to sleep now. Hope you get it cranking.

Thanks for the help NimRod, but I think I'm going to be a wiseman and stick to what gains I have, I'm still happy with those gains and increasing it to 3.5Ghz and adjusting all these other parameters just for the sake of a few 1-3 FPS is not worth it. But I'm still going to research the "GPU recover problem". Cheers again
