    Default Intel i7/Gigabyte EX58 Extreme 4.0Ghz Temps.

Here is my Gigabyte EX58 Extreme with a i7 920 at 4.0Ghz. temps, ambient room temp is 72°F using the Noctua NH-u12P SE1366 Cooler. Also this is at the 1/2 hour point using Prime95. She went a full hour with no Red flags or errors. I didnt set the timer so I stopped it myself otherwise I would have had picture showing the End of Test screen. I used the Overclock manual located here:Core i7 Overclocking Guide For Beginners - Clunk's Forums. But after shutting down the test and rebooting everything seems to be slower as far as opening or closing application windows. Or just navigating my Windows 7. I dont think that I have my memory setup correctly. Any suggestions? Also, how do I get CPU-Z to show the actual 4.0Ghz I setup using the manual above and to also show that I have my CPU Core Voltage to show 1.25 as I have it set in the BIOS? Thanks

Just one more thing, just even dragging a application window across my desktop stops and then starts again. Thought I would add that.

A 191blck would give u the full 4ghz if you must. Voltages in Windows programs will appear lower than what you have in BIOS. It is completely normal. I have my vcore set to 1.4 in BIOS and CPU-z reads exactly 1.376 or 1.367 which is intels max spec.

As far as laggy windows, you sure Prime isn't still running in the backround? lol i know its a funky question but i have done that before. Ran a test and thought i closed it. Opened TF2 and it was extremely choppy- minimized and close prime properly. But even while running prime and doing other tasks in windows it runs extremely smooth for me, dont have any other suggestions. Wish i could be of more help.

Actually I did end up getting my 4.0Ghz. reading after trying the template that Lsdmeasap made up for me for 4.0Ghz and it works super smoothly. I should have had this in the BIOS when he set it up for me about a month ago but I was having cooling problems with my Cooler Master V8,the base was concave and was not making a good contact patch. I went to the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366(mounted blowing to the top)and it is a fantastic CPU cooler. Ran Prime95 for 8 hours and 100%load temps never went above the mid 70°Celcius range. Thats very good for me anyway. Dont know if I could push it a little more on just Air though. I am running 20x200,CPU-Vcore at 128 and DRAM Voltage at 166. The weird window dragging problem came when I used some settings for 4.0Ghz from a site called Clunk but it just changed the way my mouse was working for some reason. Thanks

Hey do me a favor, forward that template this way if ya dont mind. I would like to see what advanced voltages were tweaked which way. LSD has been missing for a couple weeks now, hope the guys ok. This place is falling apart without him!

    Thanks my good man.

Here ya go! Actually he has Turbo enabled but I disabled it, I know enabling it would give me 4.2Ghz but Mid 70°Celcius is the highest I want to go on just Air. Sad to have to dump the Cooler Master V8,because it looked so sexy in my Cooler Master HAF932 case but cooling comes before looks!LOL.

Having the Noctua setup this way really helped my temps. 2 fans in Push/Pull directed at the top to the huge top mounted fan. And my 4.0Ghz finally. I tried having the Noctua blowing out the rear but I felt that it was like having it blowing against a wall, the Noctua was to close to the rear fan and I dont feel the rear fan was keeping up with the 2 Noctua fans and not enough air was being moved out of the case.

REAL sweet looking setup kenestra and thanks for the info. I got my Noctua mounted horizontal along with twin Scythe Slipstreams moving 110cfm a piece. They been anoying me lately so i hooked up a sunbeam fan controller to calm them down from time to time. I love it. been meaning to reseat it and mount vertical while im at it. I'm very curious to see the TIM pattern left behind, I have a good feeling i could knock off some some degree's with a reseat and or applying TIM using a different method.
