Ah! My very first post here! Hello folks. I was wondering if anyone has tried to overclock a P4 2.2? I have tried this processor in a Asus P4S533, Epox 4G4A+ and GA-8IHXP without any luck. I have decent Alpha cooling with a 80mm Panaflow and good memory. Does this proc sux? I can barely get 120 FSB on any board. My P4 2.26 & 1.6A overclocks well on all the afore mentioned mobos but, not the P4 2.2! What is up with that?

Not every processor can be a good overclocker. :(

Thats exactly what I thought. I have seen some links where they have been getting some 2.2's to 2.8 GHz. I wonder if they meant the 2.26's? Oh, well. Maybe I can get another 1.6A.

If ya can get the 2.26GHz one it would be a better starting point these days it seems. ;)

It's often luck due to the binning

I hear some of the 2.53's are really clocking high. I may have to hold off on another processor purchase because the Vapochills have finally come to the U.S.

    Cheers 2 you 2:)

Ah! Thanx for the link. I have never heard the term binning before, I have been enlightened. As for the article it make a lot of sense.

Yup, that's the process that makes overclocking possible.
They have to meet the need with the supply - often it isn't the fastest CPU's that they need the most of, so they sort 'em out that way and sometimes a real screamer makes it into the lower bins to make the neccesary sales.

CPU makers really don't give us any details but there are some OC'er databases online where people put their CPU info in so you can get a better chance of getting a good overclocker if you study those and purchase an appropriately marked chip.

It would be nice if they all overclocked well wouldn't it?
