    Default OC help: Q6600 + GA-P43-ES3G mobo

    Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P43-ES3G Intel P43 (Socket 775) DDR2
    HDD: WD 500GB
    CPU: Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
    PSU: Antec TruePower New Modular 750W
    RAM: OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz Fatality Edition Memory Kit CL5 (5-4-4-18)
    GPU: Nvidia 8800GTS 512MB
    Cooling: Arctic Freezer Pro 7 (CPU cooler)
    Network: BigFoot Networks Killer Xeno Pro Gaming network card

    I was looking to overclock this to around 3.0 Ghz, but I'm a complete newbie at overclocking. My dad, a member here, referred me to here to see if anyone could help me with any settings to use as I don't really know, but from what I have read, 3.0Ghz should be really really easy with this.

    Any help appreciated

    Fan = Coolermaster V8.
    CPU = i7 930.
    SSD Samsung 850 EVO 1TB
    Ram = Corsair 1600 Dominators 6GB.
    Power Supply = Tagan TG900-BZ.
    Graphics Card = Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Toxic 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card.

    Edit: and in the BIOS i don't have things like this:
    "Advanced Clock Control [Press Enter]
    CPU Clock Drive...........................: <<< 800
    PCI Express Clock Drive.................: <<< 900
    CPU Clock Skew (ps)....................: <<<

    Please update to the latest BIOS, using Qflash, DO NOT USE @BIOS.

    Then list us your specs and I can help. Not all boards have all settings, so if I mentioned some above your BIOS does not have you can ignore them

    Thumbs up Re: OC help: Q6600 + GA-P43-ES3G mobo

    The formula works but I had to adjust some memory settings to make it work. 1st kingston ram ain't the best for oc'ing, atleast not the value line or platinum. I switched to gskill(my old favorite) Pi ram, set it to 5-5-5-12. Been running over 3 weeks since I printed this formula & no problems at all! Running at 3.21 on 4 cores, ram at 537mhz=1100 total or close to it. Using the q6600 G0 at 1.31v. I'm zalman liquid cooled though(reserator 1+). Cpu never goes above 26c at full load. Now if I could get my GTX460 to stay under 74c at full load on dx10/11...,lol. Just greedy I guess. I pulled the "hood", added extra fan cooling,new case, ocz freeze compound. The stock cooler is just junk. It never glitches but just don't like the higher temps. Shut down is 104c on the reference model. The Q will prob hit 3.4-6 but it's older tech. I'm happy at the speed I got. Totally stable. Heat control is key in all this overclocking stuff for sure. On air & an asus board I couldn't stay at 3.2 for long. Went to liquid & found the nvidia chipset was holding me back so bought this gigabyte one. Lost RAID, but it doesn't make a noticable difference in speed at all. Just got 3 512gb drives running single. I game mostly so i think the RAID is mostly hype for that. Video editing,super multi-tasking, RAID maybe needed. Anyway, his formula works pretty much as stated. Idividual ram settings might need some tweaking, based on brand. I benched this system & it blew away the i7 920, ran real close to the 940. Not bad for a 775.
