Default Can't get core i7 920 to Overclock

    System Specs:
    Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
    Intel Core i7 920
    EVGA GTX275
    Corsair 650W PSU
    4GB DDR3 1600MHZ RAM
    Samsung HD103SJ

I've tried various OC guides, not trying to go too far, just to 3.4ghz.
I had managed to overclock to 3.4ghz at one point, but when i shut the computer down, it refused to re-boot with the OC.
Everything boots fine at stock settings but even overclocking to 2.8ghz, after saving settings in BIOS, it won't boot again until i reset CMOS. When it won't boot, the CPU and GPU fans turn on, the LEDS on the case all turn on, but the thing won't boot.
    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers

there's plenty of guides out there. some people need more voltages than others. some people have really good cpus and barely need any voltages.

What kind of cooling are you using for your CPU? I'm currently sing a xigmatek dark knight. Make sure all of your hardware is okay, and that your ram passes memtest and is at factory recommended timings.

I'm using the settings below for 3.8ghz.

    BLCK: 181
    PCI-E: 100

    CPU Ratio: 21
    QPI: 6.5
    Uncore: 2896
    DRAM: 1448mhz

    Without Vdroop
    CPU Voltage: 1.2625v
    DRAM Voltage: 1.65v
    IOH Voltage: 1.153v
    VTT Voltage: 1.27v
    ICH Voltage: 1.16v
    IOH/CSI Voltage: 1.16v
    IOH/ICH PCI-E Voltage: 1.56
    CPU PLL: 1.82v

I'm watercooling the CPU, I have tried so many setting that I'm really out of options, every time I change anything from what i have now the computer just turn on and off constantly until I reset the bios.

I've tried different Vcore but that doesn't seem to work. Could it be my chip just can't reach 4ghz or are their more adjustments I need to make?

I doubt that your CPU can't reach 4Ghz, give me your settings you are trying and I'll advise back
