    Hardware settings issue.
Which test are you running, smal, large, or blend?
    Please post full settings.
For MCH/CPU Reference values (if set manually) add the value for 1.2v VTT also e.g.
    Code:
    CPU Termination --------- 1.200V* ----- : 1.32
    CPU PLL ----------------- 1.500V* ----- : 1.5
    CPU Reference ----------- 0.760V* ----- : 0.88 ; 0.80 @ 1.2v VTT

I am running the blend test. Do you suggest running a different test? I have always used the blend test, but if you think a different test may be better then I will try it.

I first run Prime95 small FFT for an hour or so, then IBT/LinX to make sure there's enough vcore, Prime95 large for an hour, if all goes well blend for 8+ hours.
IBT/LinX cerate much more heat than Prime95 so watch over core temps, I would not recommend to run it over 80c, not for a long period anyway.

I recall at least 2 forum members with a DDR-1600 ram that had it at ~1500.

At 1240 timings in the range of 7-7-7-20 to 8-8-8-24 may be possible.
With Static tRead Value auto it is probably set higher than optimal.
Increasing memory frequency and/or tightening timings may require further tweaking of MCH Core, VTT and references.
Personally I recommend selecting XMP/EPP that is close for actual memory frequency, if available, even if you set timings manually.

I do plan on increasing my ram back to close to 1600, i just wanted to get the cpu overclocked first and then do the ram second . Is it just as easy to do both at the same time? I am running small fft's now for 35 minutes with no problems. I did raise the vcore from 1.387 to 1.40 today and started running that test. so far so good, after 35 minutes my temps are averaging 62c, which I think is pretty good.

Do you think 1.40vcore is a little high for 3.95Ghz?

If I can pass all the tests you mentioned earlier, I think I will try to at least get to 4.0Ghz and then get that stable if I can keep temps in a safe range.

Other than my ram frequency, do the rest of the settings look pretty good to you?

Are 62c cores temperature or CPU?
Really don't know about vcore, what the actual voltage in CPU-Z at idle and under load? There are quite a few threads of Q9550OC in the GIGABYTE forum you can compare to.
Settings look fine, if they are stable then great.

62c is the average between the 4 cores.

the actual voltage at idle and load is 1.36v. so thats seem to be still in the safe range according to the intel specification for this processor.

I am going to keep looking through some of the other threads involving the Q9550 and see how they compare to my settings.

I did fail the small fft's test, it ran for 50 minutes and the computer crashed while I was in the shower and when I saw it, it had already rebooted, but it didnt reset the bios it was still running at 3.95Ghz. I am going to keep tweaking the settings and see how it goes.

I am alot closer today than I was yesterday, thanks to you chike and lsdmeasap. I appreciate both or you helping me out.

Since the computer crashed and the test did not fail with error I think it's the bus settings.
One or more of MCH Core, VTTm MCH Reference, CPU Reference.
Try MCH Reference 0.74,0.72,0.7 @ 1.2v VTT, if less makes it worse, try higher.
If both fail repeat the above with 1.3v MCH Core.

i adjusted the cpu reference to .785 @ 1.2vtt and mch reference to .80 @ 1.2vtt. I am 15 minutes into my large fft's test with no errors yet. I hope these voltages aren't getting too high for my current settings. Temps under load are still at low 60's range.
