    Default 1600/1866/2133 mem speed. on i5 2500k

cpu overclock 5.0ghz at around 1.53v max

for these rough tests 4.9ghz with 1.52v max.Thats probably slightly more than my particular cpu needsf or 4.9, but not much more and you want the cpu stable to test the memory..
Temps: an 85c max limit to try and keep fanspeed below temp threshold for everyday/gaming use.

    Original memory
Gskill 1333 9-9-9-24 at 1.5v..anything outside of that speed/timing range needed up to 1.6v

Memory now= these 8GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz RipjawsX Series for Intel Sandy Bridge Platform (8-8-8-24) Dual Channel Memory kit

Yeh I could have purchased guaranteed 2133 11-11-11-30 1.5v for around the same price but since these had an 8 latency setting at 1600 they provided benching/testing room.

For testing I bumped vdimm up to 1.53v and vtt up to 1.063 from 1.051.
I dont think it made any difference and I tried the 2133 settings at 1.5v and 1.051 vtt ,no change

I couldnt get the memory to work at 1.57v with a 9-11-10-28 setting.
nor would it boot at 1.45v at the tested settings.

I also messed around on google/you tube and my favorite site "bigjugs.com"..,its all about pottery and stuff like that , while prime was running just to provide some extra load.

Something that has been known for awhile is the (comparatively) small, real performance gain with increased memory speed and tighter timings on 1155 cpu's/ boards, non 6 core ones at least.

The 1333mhz ram being the poor relation, in terms of being a good bit worse , and 1600 mhz being the "sweet spot" in terms of cost and performance,is something I havent experienced first hand until now.

The Maxxmem2 utility is the simplest/fastest to use memory performance testing tool and gives a reasonable indication..
Of course you can go buy 7-9-7 20 ddr3 2133+ mhz memory for big money even with the drop in memory prices but ..

Voltages.Im not interested in eco memory,in terms of saving the planet or a possible running cost reduction.. unless its something like samsung green .. that delivers the performance .

This gskill stuff will run 2133 9-11-10 at 1.65v (it wouldnt at 1.59),but since thats around the limit for a sandy cpu and I had to loosen to cr2,and secondary timings, the performance was no better.

The restof it should be self explanatory in the pic.

Good news tho with some renewed interest in overclocking, and playing with settings max peak cpu voltage down from 1.48v to 1.46v to for 4.8ghz

And of course you ran each Prime95 test (small FFT, Blend, and large FFT), one at a time for 24 hours, at each memory setting to ensure that your system was really stable.....right?
Care to run any real world gaming scripts or benchmarks that show how higher memory speeds affect game play smoothness and/or game quality settings?
Feel free to post your results here and in http://forums.tweaktown.com/memory/4...dy-bridge.html

Default Re: 1600/1866/2133 mem speed. on i5 2500k

    no life's too short!

These arent the exact speeds, but on this memory:

    1333 mhz :bench/stability testing 0

1600 mhz :maybe 4 hrs of prime(blend) some occt( psu test)mainly to see if the xmp did much at all

1866 mhz : something similar maybe 8 hrs prime in total ,not continuous not the one setting.

2133 mhz:..at the above tweaked, but not as tight as it will run,16hrs prime blend approx, some mixed ftt, couple of hrs.sandra, occt: gpu/regularlinpack, not the psu combination.
Msi ab on a gx cards clock of 800 core/1900 mem.

Like when I say apparently stable ,Id be reasonable sure of 2133 or 2143 if you like settings and "by the power of guessing" I hereby grant the boon of back stability to the other speeds

2133(strap) at those settings and 1.5v and standard vtt wont boot, for me above 102mhz base clock :2166 if you like but that might br a lot of things including the cpu overclock.

Gaming tests n the like, cinebench, vantage or pripyat

No I havent benched those at all .Ill go with the theory that there might be a 2-3fps diff in the gaming stuff between 1600 and 2133 but its so gpu o/c dependent :(

This is more at my cpu overclock(which is now a couple of degrees cooler, nothing really to do with the memory) and getting 1600 memory to overclock ok at 2133.
I mean in terms of price/performance n all that.

my 2 sets of gskill.the 1333 ram needed over 1.6v to run at loose 1600mhz
2nd set I had a few choices. The samsung green as used by Wazza..and I think parsec(nominally 1600 ram with a9 cas.By some gskill 2133 red ripjaws at 11 cas,pay the same money for 1600 blue ripjaws of 8 cas(blueis higher module quality) and take a chance. All of these at 60% of the price I paid for my 1333 stuff.postage ..a different story.
I went for the third option.
I wasnt under any illusions that I would get a great leap in performance or anything, just that I had $60 free on a prepaid card that had to be spent by a certain date !

Im not sure what I could add to http://forums.tweaktown.com/memory/4...-bridge-2.html

seing as Ivy cpu's are supposed to have a better mc and none of my memory is actually rated(jedeced) above 1600 ..

Lets put it this way the performance difference between my "old" 1333mhz at 10-10-10-28 at 1.61v and my new 1600mhz at its xmp of 8-8-8-24 at 1.5v is bench measureable but nothing you would notice normally..at least I dont.
If the new stuff hadnt clocked with stability to 2133 , Id be an unhappy camper(playing around with voltage over 1.6 at 2133 for tighter main timings doesnt do much so 2133 ,reasonable timings and 1.5v.
    Thats fine..for now!)

nb I wont be going messing around with ram discs and putting in the second set of ram at 1600,the sets seem a bit too different.

Ill try some cinebench at say 2133 and xmp 1600 and add on to that thread ,dunno how relevant it will be.
