    Default Overclock Help [Core 2 Duo E8500/Ep45-DS5 Mobo]

    Hello!

    I'm new here and at overclocking but was reading and trying to understand how it works long time ago. Basically i've tried many methods according other's settings based on my system, from various forums to overclock above 3.16ghz but system didnt want to boot up. So sometime i gave up and remained in stock conditions. But now after long time i decided to try once more to go 4ghz setup but i don't know what exactly settings should i go in bios to make it work and stable. I would love to know any suggestions step by step and will see on the road how it goes! My system spec are those when i registered here. If you need any other info about my system please let me know!

    Hello again,

    did some research on this forum and found out some nice settings that worked. Actually i 1st tried a setup on 3.6Ghz and all was good. But i wanted to go further more, so tried some changes and ended up on 3.81Ghz speed. While i am writing this, Cores 0/1 are at 48-50C. I will do some stretch test on my system to see if i will get any error. I don't want to stop here if all things go well but to break 4ghz barrier. I wondered if there are any suggestions for some optimizations on this. Also i know that Ram can run at 1066mhz but when i try to clock them at that speed system isn't booting, any tips?

    Welcome to the forum.

    What is your memory setup? 2 x 2GB + 2 x 1GB? 3 x 2GB?
    What are the model numbers for each of the memory modules?
    Include a link to the PDF datasheet for your memory on the Kingston website.

    The best forum thread for a setup similar to yours is GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
    You can also use the forum's advanced search feature, Search Titles Only and entering E8400 or e8500 in the Keyword(s) field.

    Your best overall performance will be when you use an FSB setting in the 430 - 480MHz range with memory settings up to ~875MHz with 4-4-4-12 settings. There will be no real world difference if you use 1000 - 1100MHz memory speeds with 5-5-5-15 timings.

    My P35 systems are running 8GB of memory at 876MHz with 4-4-4-10 primary memory timings.
    One system is using 8GB of HyperX T1 1066MHz memory and the other system has 8GB of OCZ Reaper 1066MHz memory.

    438 x 9 =3.942MHz:
    • using 2.00B or 2.00D, 876MHz wth 4-4-4-12 primary memory timings might work
    • using 2.40B for 1051MHz with 5-5-5-15 memory timings should work


    475 x 8.5 = 4.038MHz and 950MHz memory speed with 5-5-4-12 might be stable.
    Naturally you will need somewhat higher CPU Vcore settings.
    DRAM voltage might need to be increased somewhat.

    Static tRead Value (aka tRD or Performance Level) set to 8 might be stable when using 2.0B or 2.4B memory straps.
    Some find that it's sometimes easier to get their system stable when using the D memory strap, 2.0D or 2.66D, but you might need to set tRD = 9. When tRD is set too low, your system will probably reset the bios settings after it has gone through a 3 or 4 boot loop cycle.

    You can only include one image per post from your computer, but you can include multiple images when you use the Insert Image option and including links to images on many file sharing sites, such as DropBox.

    Check you motherboard user manual to see how you can save up to 8 different bios profiles.

    Your core temperatures are a bit high but it might be due to higher ambient temperatures.

    Hello, thanks for the reply.

    Firslty let me say that the setup i tried didn't work after i was ingame for 1 hour or so i got Bsod so i reverted to stock performance settings at 3.16ghz for the rest of the night. Temperatures were around at 54oC while in game by the way.
    Yes as u guessed i am using 2x2gb + 2x1gb memories but i couldn't not find any datasheet for them but they are as shown in everest below if that helps. Gotta try that setup you suggested for 3.9ghz first and will reply as soon as possible.

    Run Cpu-z, click on the About tab, then click on Save Report (TXT).
    You can then upload the TXT file and this will list the model number of each ram module.

    You will have a much easier time if you overclock and stress test using only 2 x 2GB of memory instead of your current 6GB setup.
    I suspect that there might be an incompatibility with your 2x2GB and 2x1GB memory kits, even if they are from the same "family".
    Did you buy all four modules at the same time?

    Which stress testing programs are you using and how long is each test run?
    In the long run you will save time by first trying smaller steps when overclocking and not trying for near 4.0GHz speeds in one step.
    Which memory modules are currently in each memory slot?

    Did you post an invisible Everest screen-shot?

    Ok here is the report from cpuz, but keep in mind that the system is still in stock settings yet. I'm trying to figure out how i can post multiple pictures from dropbox haha. No i havent't bought all the modules at the same time if i remember correct i 1st had 2x1gb setup then i added 2x2gb modules. In dimm1 and dimm3 there are the 2x2gb modules and in dimm2,4 2x1gb modules. Anyway here it is:

    I have not ran any stress test yet cuz the previous setup gave bsod last night. I will try the setup u suggested in the previous post right now, but let me know if i should try firstly the setup in the #1 post of that thread and with 2x2gb ram? config. I have Occt,intel burn test, and prime ready for use after the overclock.

    I'm bothered by the 2x1GB kit where the part numbers and manufacturing dates have significant differences.
    It's possible that the differences are due to a Cpu-z bug.

    At this point you should only use the 2x2GB memory kit for overclocking.
    For thorough stress testing, you should test with IBT or LinX using 2048MB of memory and only 10 passes.
    If IBT or LinX has no errors, a 3 - 4 hour Prime95 test is a bare minimum, 8 - 10 hours is usually sufficient.
    Make sure that the Round Off Checking option is enabled in Prime95 before you start your first test.

    The attached image shows how to post an image in a post or in a forum PM.
    To include multiple images, you repeat the procedure for each image but the image's address is obviously different for each image.

    OK profJim thanks for the tips! Im gonna remove those 2x1gb modules for sure and i'm going to apply these settings as that guy D n W did and seems stable as he says if its ok? Only difference that i will do is setting Vcore 1.3000V. Here it is his template:

    You will have to find a stable CPU Vcore for your system, it can vary quite a bit even with the same cpu model. D-an-W was using an e8400 cpu.
    As I recall, he was using 4x1GB of Crucial Ballistix ram.
    MCH Core will probably need to be 1.26 - 1.28 for your memory.
    If MCH Core is to low, you're system won't boot successfully.

    Report details about any problems that you have.

    Yea I know we have quite different system but anyway I must start from somewhere hehe. For the story system rebooted right before windows logo. So i will try that mch core to 1.26. Sent from mobile, im in bios atm. Will report after.
