    Default Overclock 3570K on Z77x-D3H

Hi, I'm looking to overclock my 3570K and was hoping for some advice before I set out to overclock it. I've done some research and have made a game plan that I will outline below. I'm hoping that some of the more experienced overclockers can check it to make sure that I'm not doing anything wrong. My specs are as follows:

    Intel i5 3750K 3.4GHz 6MB (BIOS version F16)
    Gigabyte Z77X-D3H
    8GB (2 x 4GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 LP
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
    OCZ 550W Fully-Modular PSU
MSI TwinFrozr GTX 660 Ti (2GD5/OC)
    Windows 7 64-bit

I'm planning to overclock it to 4.5GHz at 1.2V. I'm going to overclock to 4.2GHz and use Prime 95 and CPU-Z to test the results before moving onto 4.5GHz. From what I've gathered online I need to have the following settings in the BIOS:

    CPU/PCIe Base Clock: 100.00MHz
    Processor Graphics Clock: Auto

CPU Clock Ratio: 42 then 45 (for 4.2GHz and 4.5GHz respectively)

    CPU Vcore: 1.2V
    Dynamic Vcore (DVID): +0.01V
    CPU Vtt: Auto
    CPU PLL: Auto
    IMC: Auto
Dynamic GFZ Core (VAXG VDID): Auto

My main sources are as follows:

    Gigabyte z77x up4 th & z77x up5 th Overclock/Settings Guide

With regards to wazza300's post in the second link, do I need to change my System Memory Multiplier or any of the settings under Advanced Memory Settings, Channel A Timing Settings, DRAM Voltage Control or 3D Power Control? I'm not sure what 3D Power Control does but I have a feeling that the other settings relate to RAM which I don't intend to overclock.

you can just pick the correct speed for your memory,i was using 2133mhz ram,you can pick 1600mhz speed or enable xmp which sets up the memory for you

its better to set cpu voltage to normal, then set dvid to +0.015v and use high loadline calibration, that way the cpu downclocks itself at idle in speed/cpu voltage and switches to full 4.5ghz when needed ect

Ok so in addition to what I posted I'll also enable XMP to take care of the RAM.

As for the processor, if I understood you correctly, I should set the CPU Vcore to Normal and the DVID to 0.015V. Then, under 3D power control, I should set the Vcore Loadline Calibration to High; should I leave the others (GFX, DOR and CPU Vtt LLCs) at Auto?

One more question: one another forum someone recommended that I change turbo power limit and core current limit to 250/250, otherwise the CPU will throttle as soon as it hits the power limit. What do you think?

Thank you for taking the time to help me; it's much appreciated :)

leave all the other settings on auto

I havn't touched the power limits, even at 4.8ghz but you can raise them if you want

Hi again. I've just overclocked it using your advice. In summary I changed the following:

CPU Clock from 34 to 45
XMP from Disabled to Profile 1
    VCore from 1.12 to Normal
    DVid from +0.000V to +0.015V
Vcore LLC from Auto to High (to do this I had to type in 1.3 because typing in 'high' would set it to standard; is that right?)

When I tried to boot the computer, it got to the log in screen of Windows but then crashed with a BSOD. This happened twice so I changed the CPU Clock from 45 to 42. I've managed to boot it and it's now running a Prime 85 Blend Test. I have CPU-Z open as well; what should I be looking out for and is there a report I could analyse after leaving this for a few hours?

Also, do you have any ideas on getting to 4.5GHz?

Vcore LLC from Auto to High (to do this I had to type in 1.3 because typing in 'high' would set it to standard; is that right?

I never type anything in just use the plus + and minus - keys to alter the setting,it should cycle through each level, then select high

it probably crashed due to too low or not setting the right llc level

just keep core temps below or around 80c and cpu voltage below 1.4v while stressing

Is there anything I can actively do to keep the temperature and CPU voltage below 1.4V?

I went back to the BIOS and used the +/- keys to cycle through the LLC levels and put the CPU clock up to 45; so far no crashes :)

The thing is, when I had Prime95 running for 1 hour 50 minutes, CoreTemp recorded a maximum temperatures of 85, 90, 92 and 86 (for each core). I've put the CPU Clock back down to 40, not 42, so that I can see if this makes a difference in temperature.

the only way to lower temps is lower the voltage or buy a better cooler

you might be able to use medium llc loadline calibration that would lower the voltage under load or stay with high llc and use +0.005v dvid

Ok I tried both a medium LLC and keeping a high LLC with +0.005 DVID. The former gave me temperatures of 82, 86, 87 and 82. The latter gave me 81, 85, 86 and 81.

For what it's worth, when I ran Prime95 with my settings back at stock the maximum temperatures are 66, 66, 69 and 65.

I'm going to try 4.0GHz to see if that can keep things under 80C. Failing that I'll just keep things at stock until I can get a new CPU cooler.

While I remember, is there anything I can use to record voltages like CoreTemp records temperatures in Excel?

Thanks again for all your help!

I've used HWiNFO64 to log temperatures, voltages, and other parameters, where the output logs are created in text, CSV, XML or (M)HTML formats. You manually select which systems parameters you want to monitor and which ones you want to ignore.
