    Welcome to the forum.

Do a web search using: sapphire r9 285 review

The best review sites will provide information about the procedures that they used and the overclocking limits that they found in their video card review(s).

There should be some sites that have reviews that include o/c information with an R9 285 CrossfireX setup.

Another web search that might help is to search using: r9 285 overclock guide faq tutorial

You can find several Sapphire review links in the R9 285 Reviews | TechPowerUp Review Database list.

Let us know how you make out and any good links that you find.

HARDOCP - Overclocking - MSI Radeon R9 280 GAMING OC Video Card Review briefly describes their o/c procedure.
Keep in mind that AfterBurner beta versions are time limited.
The current versions might not support gpu core voltage changes but they should in the future.

You should look into Sapphire's Trixx v4.8.6 o/c utility which has support for the Sapphire R9 285 Series where increasing gpu core voltage might be supported for your video card.

    Settings (I do believe)

    Results

Does this mean that I the settings above are a safe overclock starting point? Or would they max the card out?
At least it's some good information for me and may help others getting the same card.

The results in the example show the best overclock that they could attain with their particular video card using the default voltages.
    Are these settings safe? Yes.
Is their setup stable? Yes, for their card.
Will both of your cards work with the above settings? Maybe. You might do better or you might do worse.

You don't need to worry about safe overclocks as long as your computer case setup provides adequate air flow.
Your main concern is to find the best overclock settings that are stable and where the cooling fan noise is not too high.

Modern cards have power and voltage limits that will protect you from yourself when overclocking.
Your goal is to find the highest stable video card overclock and this is best done in steps.
You should run stress tests such as Kombustor, FurMark or similar programs to test for stability.
Naturally you will want to also run your most demanding games as an additional graphics stress test.
If you get screen artifacts or driver crashes, you've gone too far.

You now have an idea how high your video cards can probably be overclocked.
I would overclock in steps, starting at the halfway point with the gpu overclock.

If you change the gpu and memory clocks at the same time and there are any problems, you won't know which of the settings is causing the problem.
AfterBurner and Trixx allow you to save several different overclocked profiles.
With AfterBurner there is no need to save the standard profile because the Reset option resets the video card to its stock settings.

If your overclock is too high, there might not be any visual indications, but you might find that your video card temporarily throttles down the gpu speed if power or temperatures get too high.

I'm not too fussed about fan noise my water Cooling is loud enough haha and that is alot of helpful information thanks :) the sapphire dual-x has adequate cooling for the cards and I can monitor the heat pretty well thanks for all your help I'll let you know what I come up with and hopefully it will help others because these cards are so new it seems like no one has overclocked them properly yet but I'm liking the cards to be honest good for the money

    You're welcome.

It looks like your R9 285 dual card setup is a good performer that requires significantly less power than the older R9 28x video cards.

If Trixx and AfterBurner don't allow you to increase gpu or memory voltages now, they probably will enable this feature in the near future.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well your overclocked CrossfireX setup performs.

It will help others even more if you include your full hardware specs using the following procedure:

Create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs portion of your
forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.
