    Just
    Code:
    Performance Enhance ------------ : [Standard]
And you may want to enable Legacy USB Storage Detect if it can't detect USB flash drive.

    For initial OC
    Code:
    CPU Clock Ratio ---------------- : [7x]
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio ----------- : [0.5]

    CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ------- : [400]

    System Memory Multiplier ------- : [2.00D/B]

    Channel A & B Timing Settings
    Static tRead Value ------ 7 ---- : [9/10/auto]

ok that was interesting if a little nervy :/

    I set the following:
    Code:
    CPU Clock Ratio ---------------- : [7x]
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio ----------- : [0.5]
    CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ------- : [400]
    System Memory Multiplier ------- : [2.00B]
    Channel A & B Timing Settings
    Static tRead Value ------ 7 ---- : [9]
And to my surprise it booted to Windows but was short lived when it froze on 1st run IBT. I then tried tRead 10 then auto but could not get passed 'starting windows'. I then switched to SMM= 2.00D and had success, screen shot below.

The results were a bit better than original test yesterday 41.51 vs 40.22 GFlops - 51C vs 54C Max Temp - 395 vs 405 Seconds. I also noticed that many settings had increased a little below tRead value but I forgot to log them.

By the way, I think Core Temp is lying about the CPU clock and speed. CPU-Z reported 400x7.5 as did the POST screen :)

Not sure how to explain the lower temps, but temps are relative to ambient temperature, so if room temperature drops 2c so would core temperatures.
Extra Flops may be due to better memory performance. Though memory is not OCed, but is 20% OC which increase data transfer.

I think you can try x8 which may not require increase of vcore.

Yes of course Core Temp is lying

    So far so good..

    Code:
    IBT High x 5 runs
    400MHz x 7.5 = 3.00GHz: 41.51 GFlops, 396sec, 51C
    400MHz x 8.0 = 3.20GHz: 42.92 GFlops, 381sec, 54C
I think the temperature difference is down to EasyTune controlling the fans. It's an easier slope than mobo control so the fans are not running as fast.

    Gigabyte EP45-DS3P + Xeon 5450 overclock help please-400x8-jpg

I went up another notch and still seems ok.
    Code:
    IBT High x 5 runs
    400MHz x 7.5 = 3.00GHz 1.21500V: 41.51 GFlops, 396sec, 51C
    400MHz x 8.0 = 3.20GHz 1.21500V: 42.92 GFlops, 381sec, 54C
    400MHz x 8.5 = 3.40GHz 1.21500V: 45.62 GFlops, 360sec, 52C
I might as well give it a shot at 9x to see what happens...

I am now at 400x9 writing this but IBT falls at the first hurdle. I tried turning Vcore up 3 clicks to 1.23125 and can now use my browser but IBT still fails after 10secs. So I will go back to the last setting that worked and wait for your advice, there are so many mystical settings in this BIOS it's a mine field. Good night :)

8.5 / 7.5 * 45.51 = 47, so Flops a bit shy of what we expect, try 2-5 clicks up vcore see if you can get the 47.
If only temps get higher but Flops don't then no need for extra vcore.
    Expected Flops with x9 49+.

note that 5 loops IBT are no indication for stability, for that I suggest a nightly Prime95 customized blend torture with max available physical memory minus 200-250MB as reported by task manager performance tab.

    More vcore likely.
What is the value of one click up CPU PLL? If it's under 1.5 you can give that a try too.

A quick observation: I tried Static tRead 10 and dropped 0.2 MFlops then tried 8 and BIOS did not POST and reset itself. So can I assume tRead=9 is optimum for me? CPU PLL is 1.5 default but I will try it set manually. Will also try more vCore as I understand max safe limit is 1.35V but I will try in stages until I get 400x9 or it gets too hot, thanks Chike for the help so far..
    Code:
    IBT High x 5 runs
    400MHz x 7.5 = 3.00GHz 1.21250V: 41.51 GFlops, 396sec, 51C
    400MHz x 8.0 = 3.20GHz 1.21250V: 42.92 GFlops, 381sec, 54C <-lower fan speed
    400MHz x 8.5 = 3.40GHz 1.21250V: 45.62 GFlops, 360sec, 52C
    400MHz x 9.0 = 3.60GHz 1.24375V: 47.79 GFlops, 343sec, 54C <- 5 clicks up Vcore
Not getting to 49+ just yet :)

It may be the memory that is holding it back.
Try 423 x 8.5, and Standard Timing Control set manually 5-5-5-18, might need a little extra DRAM voltage, try up to 1.9v, and maybe also MCH Core.

    Shoot for 3.8GHz, or try 450 x 8?
How are NB temperatures? Be careful touching it, not to move it and/or burn your finger.
