Hey fellas, my first post here and let me first say that this is an OUTSTANDING website! I've been casually looking around for overclocking and optimization advice for a few months and you guys seem to have it all for almost every setup.

Now I've already read the excellent WinME, GeForce and AMD articles. Great stuff for newbies like me who need definitions to go along with all the hardcore computer jargon. I've also looked at almost every relevant thread in the OC forum for info as well. I think I'm ready to start tweaking my 2 year old computer for the first time.

This is what I want to do: overclock my current rig as much as possible while spending $0-$50 doing it. I just bought an amazing monitor (Viewsonic 22" P220F) and don't want to spend any more $$$ until I take on the major challenge of building my own new super system at year's end.

    * So can someone point out the order in which to make the tweaks mentioned in the guides?

    * Also, where are my biggest bottlenecks as you can see them?

    * My 3DMark score is low I think... OC'ing my vid card seems to create minor artifacts in the shootout demo, so I always just reset it back to default. Is this normal (minor glitches?)

    * With the setup I have, what's your guess on the best possible score I might achieve?

Also I noticed that the GiMP has a similar processor as mine and took the AMD 1.0 to 1.4! His input would definitely be appreciated (what's your 3DMark score now?).

Once again great site, and I appreciate any additional advice that you may have.

Hey arredondo , where would you like me to start with my tweaking journy lol. My 3dmark now is about 7600 , somewhere around there ... I'm running my 1.0GHz Tbird @ 1.4GHz (10*140 - 133MHz stepping) and its rock stable , it'll goto 1450 but with occational crashes so I'm sticking to 1.4 for the time being :)

    7600?!? WOW!!! I'd be satisfied if I got close to 5000 ;) .

So is your processor really all that different than mine (AXIA?). I'm not sure how well mine compares to yours. I haven't unlocked it yet, but will do so this week. Should adjusting the processor be the first thing I adjust? Maybe the FSB? I read the articles to know how - I'm unclear as to what order takes priority.

Silly question, but are you using your stock fans? I doubt it, but let me know if your settings are impossible without the modification. (edit: oh, I see... there is a cooling device listed in your settings).

Finally, please review my settings and tell me what you see as the biggest potential bottleneck to raise my score at least 1200 points.

    Thanks again!

You need a better Heatsink/Fan before you do anything , your temps that you have posted are pretty unacceptable for even stock speed. Look into a Volcanoe 7+ maybe. Depending on your tolerance for noice you could OC it to somewhere around mine depending on the stepping.

arredondo do the "what are my temps like with the case open" experiment and let us know what the results are plus the room temp at the time. ;)

Other than that GiMP was an excellent student. :thumb:

:D Yeah I woulda been no where fast without the great Wiggo to guide me. Started out with a measly 3dmark of 6000 and now into the 7600s , saved myself some money in the long run thats for sure :thumb:

Use and remember his teachings well

Ok, I see it all starts with proper cooling. As I mentioned above, I wasn't planning to spend any $$$ after I got my monitor so I doubt I do any adjustments to my current rig.

I'm saving my dough to go all out on the parts I need to build a new uber-computer at the end of the year (or whenever Doom 3 comes out). I'll really be picking your brains for advice then!

I'd ditch Windows ME before I got that monitor ;)

I already got the monitor (absolutely stunning visuals!)... what does WinME have to do with monitors? I've had it for 2+ years and it's never caused me any issues.
