Ive got an old head spreader (goes over the die etc) from an amd k6 that i tooj it off of, its got plenty of thermal compound on it. Would it work on my xp2100+ as a die protector/heat spreader? And would it help my temps?

No as ya likely to break something as the clips around now are pretty stiff and not meant to take the extra lift in the HSF that what ya thinkin' about will involve.

i looks as if itll only create an extra 1 or 2mm extra lift max though. Im just trying to find something thatll help prevent me from cracking it, i havent dine it yet, but i know all it takes is one screwup when u put in the hsf

Go and buy a non-conductive shim then that's the right one for ya CPU as that is your safest bet and in the hunderds of CPU installations and removals that I've done I havn't cracked one yet (touches wood).
