VIA Slims Down the Form Factor with the Low Profile VIA EPIA TC Mainboard - The Most Highly Integrated Mini-ITX Yet!

New VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX mainboard features highest levels of integration, low profile design and support for various solid state storage enabling ultra reliable and versatile slim networked devices

Taipei, Taiwan, 06 November 2003 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator and developer of silicon chip technologies and PC platform solutions, today announced the launch of the VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX Mainboard featuring unprecedented levels of integration, reducing the number of internal components required by the system and making it highly suited to Thin Clients, LCD PCs, and other space and energy efficient designs.

“With the VIA EPIA TC, VIA has integrated more components onto the board than ever before, offering unprecedented application versatility while helping to further slim down Mini-ITX system designs,” said Tim Handley, Marketing Manager Processor Platforms, VIA Technologies, Inc. “VIA provides a one-stop-shop for system builders, alleviating the need to source additional components from third parties and speeding up the development process and time to market through reduced system validation time.”

Helping to achieve slimmer, fanless designs, the VIA EPIA TC mainboard features a built-in 12V DC-DC power converter, eliminating the need for bulky power supplies that need a noisy cooling fan, and providing 60W of power on the 17cm x 17cm board. A horizontal SODIMM slot on the underside of the mainboard and the optional CardBus (PCMCIA) and CompactFlash slots help to achieve the VIA EPIA TC’s unique low profile design by providing expandability without using the vertical PCI slot.

A wide range of storage options is supported, including DOM support, two IDE ports allowing for hard drive and DVD-ROM connections, and an optional CompactFlash slot. This makes the VIA EPIA TC configurable for a diverse range of embedded or client designs, including those with no moving parts, backup storage through a local hard drive, connectivity to an array of modern-day peripheral devices, or wireless connectivity through an optional CardBus Type II (PCMCIA) slot.

The VIA EPIA TC incorporates the fanless VIA Eden™ ESP processor, essential for ultra reliable and noiseless systems. The mainboard is also available with the VIA C3™ processor that caters for more performance intensive applications such as digital media management.

The VIA EPIA TC comes with the VIA CLE266 chipset featuring integrated VIA UniChrome™ 2D/3D graphics and an embedded MPEG-2 decoder that provides flawless DVD playback. Other features on the board include support for DDR266 RAM, USB2.0 and onboard LAN.

About the New VIA EPIA TC-Series Mini-ITX Mainboard

The VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX mainboard targets slim system designs in the corporate, education, and home sectors. Measuring 17cm by 17cm, the VIA EPIA TC is a native x86 platform and is fully compatible with a complete range of MicrosoftÒ WindowsÒ operating systems as well as all leading versions of Linux. The mainboard is available in two SKUs: the fanless VIA EPIA TC6000 that uses the 600MHz VIA Eden™ ESP6000 processor or the VIA EPIA TC10000 that uses the 1GHz VIA C3™ processor based on the Nehemiah core.

The VIA EPIA TC of Mini-ITX mainboard features the VIA CLE266 chipset with an embedded hardware MPEG-2 decoder and integrated VIA UniChrome™ 2D/3D graphics core for enhanced digital media performance. Performance is further boosted with support for the higher memory bandwidth DDR266 SDRAM and the high data transfer speeds of ATA-133.

The VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX mainboard has an onboard 12V DC to DC power converter that provides 60W of power to unique space saving designs. An optional CardBus type II provides extra expandability for a wide range of peripheral devices and networking capabilities. In addition, optional support for a CompactFlash slot and DOM provides numerous storage and memory configurations, including instant boot up of embedded operating systems. The VIA EPIA TC also offers direct support for a number of LVDS embedded LCD panels, has a PCI slot for additional expandability, and is compatible with a full range of Mini-ITX chassis as well as FlexATX and MicroATX enclosures.
