Taipei, Taiwan December 5th, 2003- Gigabyte Technology announces the release of its wireless router, the GN-B49G, for Internet connection sharing in the home or small office environment. This wireless router is ideal for creating a fast and affordable wireless network that is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11g standard, but offers twice the network performance speed of 108Mbps compared to the usual 54Mbps. The GN-B49G also includes innovative setup features that remove the hassle of router installation and configuration for connectivity that is quick and painless.

Installation and Configuration
The GN-B49G enables computers within a network to share an Internet connection. To do this, the device needs to be installed and configured- which can often times be a difficult and tedious process. During configuration, users are required to enter their Internet connection type, such as PPPoE, DHCP, or Static as a way of authenticating their Internet access. The selected configuration affects the following IP allocation and if done improperly, IP conflict may occur and result in the inability of certain network computers to access the Internet. To solve this issue, the GN-B49G includes setup tools dedicated to simple installation. For instance, the Smart Detection feature automatically selects the proper connection type and the Smart Setup feature automatically issues a non-conflicting IP for each computer to eliminate any router configuration problems.

A Multi-Functional and Cost-Saving Solution
Besides the function of Internet connection sharing, the GN-B49G also offers a number of convenient features. For instance, the Gigabyte unique feature, called the Extended Distribution Wireless System (EDWS), expands on the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) aimed at broadening the network range through point to point connections between APís. However, with WDS, the APís involved become limited only to transferring information and rendered incapable of connecting wireless clients to the network. But with EDWS, not only does the GN-B49G act as an AP, but also retains the AP function of connecting wireless clients. Thus, this device offers users a superior cost-saving solution to wireless networking with its router, AP and bridging functionality.

Complete Security and Protection
Since wireless trafficking occurs over the airwaves, it can easily be prone to outside intrusion and tampering and thus, a robust security solution is a definite necessity. To deal with this security challenge, the GN-B49G includes 64/128/152-bit WEP encryption for data protection, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and 802.1x for user authentication. As well, the device has a firewall to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. For those users who wish to limit Internet access- - such as in the case of parents with young children-, the GN-B49G also offers a blocking feature that prohibits access to selected Internet sites or on-line content.
