  • How fast for gaming?

    Hey
Just about to buy a new pc. P4, but im still undecided about speeds. I know i can get a 3.0 ghz but its more expensive than a 2.8 or 2.4
I'm into gaming, at these clockspeeds will it really make a difference to the frames per second in a graphically intense game. Or is it just the video card once you've got a processor thats just adequetly fast?
    Sandy Bridge Pentium G840
    Asus socket 1155
    Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR31866
    PNY geforce 9600gt PCI-E 512Mb
    HP w1907 widescreen LCD
    Creative sound blaster X-Fi Titanium
    Corsair Performance Pro 256GB SSD
    1TB Hitachi Deskstar HDD

Well I can tell you I got large gains when I went from 2.4 / 800 to 3.0 / 1000 on my processor.

i depends on which games you want to play, some are more cpu dependent than others

Mostly first person shooters, bit of racing and also some stuff like warcraft whose performance i'm not worried about.
Ok 2 huge upcoming games - Half-life 2 and Doom 3. With a decent video card and lots of RAM will it make a diff whether i have a 2.4ghz or 3.0ghz processor?

probably not; besides, with a 2.4C and a decent mobo you might possibly be able to get it to 3+ ghz

            I agree with minibubba ,

You really wont see that much of a differance between a 2.4 - 3.0

You would be better off with a 2.4/2.6/2.8 and put the extra $$$ saved into a higher end v/card (a better compromise in IMO)

You will also see more of FPS increase with a lower GHZ chip overclocked at higher FSB . ;)
