  • can u O'Clock amd-k6 2 350 to 450?

i've been learning to overclock my computer systems, so far ive gotten my old amd-k6 from 350Mhz to 400 Mhz, can i go higher on this old MoBo and keep my system stable?

We will need more specs on your computer. If its a brand name (Dell, compaq) then your lucky you got it that far.

As long as you have good cooling and can jack up the vcore, you should be able to. Just go untill you find instability, then you know youve gone too far.

Yes ya can but you'll need a Socket A HSF (SS7 HSF's don't cut it here as I found out real early on as K6-2/3 CPU's will run hot) and a decent mobo but even if it is a Brand Name PC you'll likely get some sort of an increase out of it as multipliers and CPU voltages are still manipulated by jumpers and/or dip switches on SS7 mobo's.

      Dell? They're Intel only. ;)

O yah....they run hot .... I blew my motherboard, cpu, and almost my ram ocing. I was using a compaq 7030 with a amd k6-2 stock at 500 mhz ... and once I found the jumper setting on the net I oced it to 550mhz :flames: . But...... a few weeks later I came home from school and found the screen all messed up so i restarted and woudent you guss it. It dident turn on. A month later I told my step dad after I failed at resodering the capasters that blew.... and ended up with a druon 950 . Dident last long later I got a job and a kick ass computer.... In otherwords... dont oc the voltage to high or you my blow you mother board..... :flames: oc the voltage enoughf to get it to boot windows and stay stable.

i have an old compaq 5070 wit some piece of crap MoBo ,thanx for da help, im coolin my system wit some xtra case fans i have, da heatsink da came wit my cpu, and da front and rear fans, i upped da voltage from 2.2v to 2.3 v so i can have a more stable system but when i get it at 450 and restarts right as im about to logon, can it be a cooloin issue or jus instability witout da rest of my hardware

It just maybe that 450MHz is out of its range but ya say that ya still usin' the stock HSF (it should be about 50mm x 50mm) then that could be ya prob (and no amount of airflow will help ya there) as those CPU's will start to throw errors up at about 50C+ (as I said they run hot but have a very low temp ceilin') and lockup at about 54C. My K6-2 400 runs at 500MHz and my K6-3+ 500 runs at 560MHz (both usin' Cooler Master DP5-6H51 HSF's, 60mm x 60mm, with 7K Y.S.Tech fans) which keep them at just under 50C at full load.

            Here's my K6-3+ 450 naked.

Now its case (this was my old server up until the end of last year).

i might have a spare heatsink around from one of my other comps, i usually jus read and see wats best and buy it, so i have lots of spares, but it shud be possible to overclock my 350 to 450 wit a proper heatsink?? if not shud i lower da fsb to 95Mhz and up the multiplier to 4.5??? will this setting get me ne extra power

Lower the multi and raise the FSB as high as you can get it. When its stuck, raise the multi to finish it off. You don't want low FSB and high multi.
