hard drive only reading 127gb??

I have winodws xp professional and i have a 160gb ata 133
and a 250gb sata, but it is only reading 127gb on both
drives and i can't get it to read the full 160 and 250. I
have had people tell me to download service pack 1, but i
have tried hundreds of times and it will not let me
download it, it says server not responding, but the
internet connection is perfectly fine. If anyone could
please help me it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

You can't download SP1? That's odd... Check Windows Update (Internet Explorer > Tools > Windows Update) and check here.
Once you get SP1 installed, you mat still need another program. I'm not certain if it works on non-Maxtor hard drives, but the Maxtor Big Drive Enabler program (google it and search Maxtor's web site) will certainly fix the problem for Maxtor drives. But you need service pack 1 before you run it.

Threads merged. Personally I find you saying you can't DL SP1 means you have a pirated version of XP or a very odd problem. You need to get it to fix your problems, if you can't do some searching around on Microsofts site and see if you can find the individual update for the larger HD's.

Also your Mobo BIOS might not recognized over 127gb drives.

Its likely you may need a PCI controller card that will read the full amount but you'll have to check the spec's of the card to be sure.

It seems that winxp with service pack 1 supports only 127 gb. the other part needs to b partitioned into a new drive.
