I have performed a search on this message board already and have not found an answer to a HUGE question.

Q: Should I have real time file protection ENABLED in windows Xp?
A1: NO! It makes windows slow and causes file curruption and other serious problems.
A2: YES! It is a MAJOR safety risk if disabled. The realtime protection will save your hard drive from many possible infections.

Now what I want to know is given the PROS and CONS what is the safest route?

Yes, enable real time protection. It's worth the slight hit in performance because if a virus etc. gets into your system it'll establish itself and it's bad behavior before you even know it. By then, enough damage can be done to be a serious problem. Some viruses (viri?) will also cause Norton to be unable to scan. So---turn it on.
