  • New video card, now won't boot

    I'm trying to install a Connect3d radeon 9000pro 64mb into my pc #
    (P3-450, se440bx mobo 256mb ram) oh and win 98.
Starts to boot, detects cpu, memory, drives etc , the next line reads
'System configuration updated' then it hangs.
Company who sold me card after there recommendation wont do jack about it.
    Any ideas... Anybody?

What graphics were you using before the ATI board?

Do you have to connect that one to the Power Supply? Both my Radeon cards have to be, but I'm not sure about yours. Just thought that simple tidbit might be your problem so I thought it might be worth mentioning but I'm guessing it's more complex than that.

        Sorry for delay in replying,

        1. Previous card was creative voodoo banshee 16mb
        2. the new card dosen't need to conncet to psu.

The company I ordered from now suggest the psu ain't man enough,
but tried a 300W with just vid card & hdd and same result, ATI say the radeon 9000 is supposed to support win98 but connect 3d say it only supports win ME & later, guess I'have to try that route

Stick the voodoo back in and uninstall it through devive manager and the drivers for it through add/remove before powering down to stick the r9000 in.

Yes, I would stick the old card back in and reset the video driver to
            "Standard VGA Adapter".

Once that is done, take out the old card and put the new one in.

After bootup, use the install CD to load the new drivers.
