  • That ticking sound in barracuda...

Hi everyone, I recently found one of my barracuda ST380011A ticks during system idle. It seems to happen several minutes after system become idle and lasts for a minute or so and then ticks again after an interval of some minutes.

At first I thought it's some faulty sectors but MHDD shows no problem. And then I found exactly the same ticking phenomenone on another ST380011A that I've been using stably for some years. Does every ST380011A ticks during system idle? What's the cause or operation behind this ticking? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

My maxtor had that same tick, then went away for a couple days, then now stalls..alot..with ticking..then just recently died. I would definitely back up your data.
