  • wireless notebook not working with existing home wireless connection

so i bought a compaq notebook today, and it comes with a 54g 802.11g WLAN with 125HSM*/Speedbooster and Broadranger support.

so i figured that it would automatically detect my settings and i'd be able to surf the net. when i booted my notebook it said that i had little or no connection. i was on the phone with a person from linksys, because i have wireless broadband router and a the wireless usb adapter to connect my other computer that i have. she tried a bunch of stuff, but i was still unable to connect to the internet on my laptop. she messed with the router settings and what not and still nothing. even when i connected the laptop directly to the internet i was unable to get anything.

so the question: is there anything that i could try so that i could be able to use the internet on my comp?

How about you tell us more about your existing wireless network. What router (or whatever access point) are you using? Do you have any encryption enabled?
