    Re: ATI Cards

I'm just trying to decide which pci-e card to get. Cpu is gonna be a Athlon 64 3700+. So i dont think any of those cards will bottleneck.

Why are you getting an ATI card when the Nvidia 6800GS will easily outperform all of those cards for less money?

        Re: ATI Cards

Alot of ppl are saying that the 6800gs is cheaper..Its not, but any means...Around my area(Toronto) its about $100-$140 more for those cards. Saw one eVGA 6800GS for $274. Why are these cards so damn exspensive??

          Re: ATI Cards

Yeah ATI cards are a little cheaper in Canada, because ATI is Canadian. And they dont have to ship them over the boarder, which costs money. Howerver, I could never find myself buying an ATI card, not the current generations anyway.

One of the cheapest 6800GS cards I could find was just under $240 CAD. I would still go for the 6800GS.

            Re: ATI Cards

the x1600s are not good at gaming, and the standard gtos are not worth it. the gto2will unlock, which makes it better than the others, and as casecutter said, the gs is easily the eaqual of an unlocked gto2 if not better.

the ultimate is a sandard card with a massive passive heatsink.

You are looking in the wrong places:

              http://search.ncix.com/displayproduc...20TECHNOLOGIES

$225 + 7% tax + shipping (which is usually cheap and fast with NCIX). This is a much beter card.

                Re: ATI Cards

$225 with mail in rebate, you still have to pay the extra 25 dollars which means your paying almost $250. The eVGA card I was talking about is $238.90, but it has a 425 coreclock instead of the 285MHz that the XFX card has. Just remember eVGA has the best warranty of the lot, which includes overclocking.

Crap, I missed the mail in rebate. Oh well. I also firmly agree on EVGA. The only brand for me at the moment. Plus, the two 680GS's I got overclock unbelievably well. I can bench 550/1300 and run 500/1250 24/7.

X1600s are not 9600XTs in any way, shape, or form. They use a very different core (which is also a different size) and have considerably better performance On top of that, 9600XTs didn't stuck, and still don't stuck. It was easily the best mid-range card of its time and it's still a suitable entry-level card. As for the X1600XT, it's a good card, though I'd say it's best to get a 6800GS for the small premium.
