  • Your top recommended motherboards?

I just got done building two computers using the C2D 6400. I used the Asus P5B-E and was not overly impressed. I hated the bios and its looks. It had a problem with any overclocking at all and some of it's own software messed it up. Anyone care to lead me to another board that you would recommend?

    Re: Your top recommended motherboards?

I've been using the Gigabyte boards for my E6600 and haven't had any issues. A lot of folks like the DQ6 but I've been using the DS4 (both i965P based chipsets) and like it. It is basically the same as the DQ6 model but without the huge heatsinks on the bottom of the board. This is handy since I play around with alternative cooling pretty regularly. The DS3 is still a decent board but is aimed at a bit lower-performance market.

Maybe someone else will be able to give input on other branded boards; Gigabyte is the only brand that I've messed with since moving back to an Intel processor.

        Re: Your top recommended motherboards?

I have to agree with Darth, the DQ6/DS4 are incredible boards that are almost easy to overclock with.

What memory were you using? Overclocking with these things takes some good memory and careful use of dividers to get some good clocks. As for the Intel board it is good, but you will probably be FSB limited by that 975x chipset for any real good CPU overclocks. The E6300/6400 are better served with a 965P chipset, the E6600/6700/6800 like the 975x boards.

          Re: Your top recommended motherboards?

I have narrowed it down to the gigabyte DQ6 or the Abit AW9D-Max. Any info that you know about either of these boards would be appreciated. Thanks
