  • AVG Antivirus Free and Windows Vista Basic

Hello... I got an Acer Aspire with Vista installed. Last day I installed AVG antivirus. Awhile ago i tried running FutureMark's 3DMark06 (free) and it forced me to do a cold (forced) reboot since it hangs. I noticed i got AVG resident shield on.

When I try to disable the resident shield, It wont work. It kept "on." How do I fix this?

Don't run 3D Mark 06 on a laptop. It isn't up to the task.

Okay... I noticed the insanely long load times as well...

But why wont the resident shield turn off?

Vista will be choking on 512MB as it really needs a minimum of 1GB and that's still not really enough as 2GB is what you actually need for Vista to run smoothly.

I'd be very careful pushing a low end laptop that hard with a benchmark. You are going to melt something......

PS: I am amazed it ran it, but good job and persistence.

Wow... Thanks. I thought someone might register just to throw a at me.

About the "melty" thing, I was scared when you told that, since the lappy was putting out heat really fast during that bench. I was nervous about the test, observed the heat very closely, and put a small candle on the vent, and when it reaches to one CMP or one "Candle Melting Point," I should have pulled the plug.

And you know what? The candle was softened enough that I can dent and squish the heated surface. After taking "the test," I shut it down and cooled it using a hair dryer set to cool and blowing at the intake port.

After that, let me try 3DMark06 on that Pentium 1.
