Will Q9450 boot with EX38-DS4 out of the box ?

    What about with EP35-DS4 ?

    Thanks.

    Re: EX38-DS4 and Q9450

It all depends on how new the boards actually are. They both support it by BIOS updates as you know. And they both support 45nm CPU's out of the box, but that is limited to the dual cores for the EX38, it needs to be F3 bios to run it, but that could be "officially" or efficiently (See Comment Below). The EP35-DS4 will support it out the box, here is the cpu support lists >>>

    EX38-DS4
    GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - CPU Support List - GA-EX38-DS4

    EP35-DS4
    GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - CPU Support List - GA-EP35-DS4 (rev. 2.1)

So for the EX38 it would kinda depend on where you buy it, and if it is the Newest stock they have. If you have a older 65nm cpu and plan to buy a Q9450 best to keep your old CPU until you get the board just incase.

I do see a user here at newegg saying he got a F2 BIOS board and used a X3350 (Same as Q9450) with it and it was fine, and that is marked as not supported till F3 on GA pages. So I think you will be fine. See here "doublea" Comment on 3/28/2008 2:32:28 PM >>>

Even though the F2 BIOS supports Dual Core E8400, should one update to F3 for the "enhancements" in F3?

Yeah, you should. But you do not have to, you can use F2 if it works fine for you.

And I have read other places that EX38 with F2 does support the Q9450 so you can get that if you want.

So basically, either of them will run a 8*00 series or a Q9450
