• X48-DQ6 & HyperX PC8500 & Q6600

hi everyone,

i just bought a X48-DQ6 board and HyperX (2x2) 1066 rams but i can't get them work at 1066. as CpuID says they are working as PC-6400 with 400Mhz.

checked the product sheet on kingtons site and it says it should work at 5-5-5-15 with 2.2V but my rams working with 5-5-5-18 / 1.8V.

now i need some help here guys, i am not a big expert on bios operations and if somebody can help me with my bios setting to tweak my rams to work as 5-5-5-15 and with 2.2V. what should i change and where ?

also i have a Q6600 not overclocked yet :) and maybe you can help me to tweak it to 3.0 or 3.2Ghz. i have a nice cooler and my case temp is cool to. i hope this info is enough.

Last time i'll list my spec.

Gigabyte x48 DQ6
Q6600 ( G0 Stepping )
Kingston HyperX KHX8500D2K2/4G (2x2) PC2-8500

big thanks in advance :)

Re: X48-DQ6 & HyperX PC8500 & Q6600

Here is suggested settings for 3.2Ghz CPU and 1066 Ram >>>>

First, You will need to Disable C1E and EIST in the Advanced BIOS Features Page of the BIOS then make the following changes >>>

CPU @ 3.2 and Ram @ 1068

Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [9]
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [356]
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [3.00] <<< Choose 3.0 or whichever is closest to 1066
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

Performance Enhance = [Standard]

CAS Latency Time________________5
Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5
Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______5
Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 18

These are ranges, start with the highest number and move lower later ONE AT A TIME testing after each move

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)_________ 3-4
Rank Write to READ Delay________9-11
Write to Precharge Delay_________ 11-14
Refresh to ACT Delay______________ (50) 52-62
Read to Precharge Delay__________ 4-6
Static tRead Value_______________ 7-10
Static tRead Phase Adjust________ 1-31 <<< Leave on Auto or Zero or 1-31 (Meaning do not adjust to anything else)

DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.300V] +.3 = 2.1V you will likely not need 2.2V
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V] <<< For Stability
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V] <<< For Stability
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V - +0.125V - +0.15] <<< For Stability of 2x2GB (Try 1.25 first if it still errors bump it up a notch, sometimes .2 is needed)

CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.40] <<< You may likely not need this much but best to set here, then lower later with testing as you slowly lower it. And keep a eye on your temps if you need 1.4 or more, which could also be likely

Or if you wanted to run your Ram at 1:1 (2.00 In GA boards) with your CPU you will need to use a lower CPU mutli such as these settings below >>>

CPU @ 3.2 and Ram @ 1040

Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [8]
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [400]
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.66] <<< 2.66 X 400 FSB = 1040 Ram Freq
DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

Re: X48-DQ6 & HyperX PC8500 & Q6600

I need a link to your ram, the page you bought it on or the page with it's spec's. Not an image of it

Your CPU Block may not be so great, that could be why your CPU Temps still hit 68C at load, but then again Q6600 does get warm. I'm just against water kits, as they generally are pretty lame, but you do have a good RAD though.

Try these
Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
CPU Clock Ratio ____________ [9]
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [400] << Use 399 or 401
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00D] (1:1) Also test 2.00B, but I need to see your advanced timings before I can further advise you on this.

DRAM Timing Selectable_______ SPD __ [Manual]

Performance Enhance = [Standard]

CAS Latency Time________________ 5
Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay_________ 5
Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_______5
Precharge Delay (tRAS)__________ 15

Where is the rest? Your advanced timings????

CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control [800mV]
CPU Clock Skew Control [normal] << Set auto
GMCH Clock Skew Control [Normal] << Set auto

System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
Load Line Calibration _ON

DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.40V] = 2.2V volt with in spec 2.1-2.2
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [normal] << Set Auto
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [normal] << maybe try +0.1, don't use normal on anything
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.150V] << Try +0.2 for now, until you link me to your ram
CPU Voltage Control_______ [1.48] but still core 2 fails at prime << More, what does this give you anyway in windows under load?

Sorry for the confusion then, I just meant a URL to the ram or the model number so I could look up the specs. But thanks for posting them

Try this, you can leave your water on. You bought it to use, might as well use it right? You just might want to think about a nicer CPU block later when you have some more money.

Be sure in CPU-z you look at the Memory Tab and not the SPD Tab to see the memory speed, for 1066Mhz you should see 533 listed as the ram speed. 533 x2 = 1066Mhz

Here, circled in blue is where you will see the actual ram speed, mine is showning 1600Mhz ram speed (800x2) >>

its 1.47 shown on cpuz when u run it at 3.6...but in bios i set it to 1.49...cause im scared to reach 1.5...its the official specs of q6600...and im running my ram at 5-5-5-15 @ 400 mhz-1600 rated fsb...and a 1:1 cpu dram ratio...

Is that what amount you see when the CPU is under full load? You can go above 1.5 actual shown in CPU-z, as long as your temps are good.

Ya, sounds like you need a better block then the one you are using. Luckily they are all around the same price as a heatsink, about $45-60

If your cores are only reaching 64C under full load you can still push a little if you feel comfortable with it.
