  • GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

I'm having problems getting all four of my sticks running. I can run any combination of two modules just fine, but once I add the third, my system won't post. I'm in the process of using memtest, but since all of the sticks work fine individually, I don't think that's the problem.

    Full System Specs:

    Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

I would start off by setting the main memory timings to 5-5-5-18, tRFC to 54 (or higher, say anywhere between 54-64) and then testing to see if the PC boots and/or passes memtest.

If it boots but doesn't pass memtest without errors, try incrementing the DDR2 voltage by 0.1 volts and test. If it still errors, increment the DDR2 voltage by a further 0.1 volts (2.0v total) and test.

Try the above for starters... tweaking can be done later..

Plus, remember to keep "Performance Enhance" to Standard.

also you'll need to up the MCH Core voltage to at least 1.25V for 8GB (up to even 1.35V maybe), you'll need to increase the Static tRead value to 7-12 (maybe even start at 14 and work down, testing with MemTest86+, of course)

        Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

Thanks for the replies guys, but I'm still not getting past POST. I finished running Memtest for each stick individually and they all passed.

It seems like I can only have RAM in one channel. I can run 4GB in Channel A, but if I do 2 in Channel A and 2 in Channel B, it doesn't boot. Any ideas?

Here, start with these very loose values, then tweak your way down >>>

I do think voltage was your issue more then anything, 1.8/Auto just isnt going to cut it. The sticks are rated to 2.1 (+0.3) but will run fine up to 1000 or so with only 2.0, but MCH will be needed as suggested above

            Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

I'm still getting continuous reboots, even using the loosest values. It seems to me like my motherboard doesn't like having ram in Channel 0 and Channel 1 at the same time... But I'm by no means an expert on these things.

              Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

first just go over every settings in the MIT and get them all to optimized defaults:
" i went to every option and did F7(load optimized defaults) not just to the main screen of M.I.T , even when i enter any advanced settings or channel settings i pressed F7, then i reboot, then i manually change timings and everything was fine :S"
this is a quotation from me how i fixed the reboot cycle :P
so after u do that tweak the ram with LSD'S settings, u should be fine ^^

Did you buy all the modules at around the the same time?

                Plus have you tried:-

                1) 5-5-5-18 or 6-6-6-18
                2) tRFC = 56
                3) DDR2 @ 2.0volts

                  Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

Yeah... I bought them at the same time. I'm going to be needing my computer for school work tonight, so I don't have time to mess around with the BIOS.

I don't know if you guys remember, but I was having a problem with my Corsair DDR3 RAM a few weeks ago... I had trouble getting both sticks running at the same time, but I could run them individually. I was looking through my manual and it turns out that the two DDR3 sockets are divided into separate channels, 0 and 1.

Right now, I can have 2x2GB in either channel 0 or channel 1, but if I put a 2GB stick in channel 0 and one in channel 1, I'll get reboots. Maybe something's just wrong with my motherboard?

Thanks for the help so far, guys.

                    Re: GA-EP45C-DS3R 8GB (4x2GB) RAM

You are using the right slots right? I mean like (DDR2 Channels of course) Channel 0, slot one & Channel 1, slot 3 for dual channel

If so, did you try Channel 0, slot 2 & Channel 1, slot 4

Just trying to be sure, they must be in the same places in both slots, so 1+3 or 2+4 is what I meant above if that is unclear.

And for 8GB it just is not going to be plug and play, which I know you know.

                    And yes, please try 555-15/18

Have you Fully Memtested each stick by itself to be sure you do not have a DOA Stick in the mix?

I've tried your suggestions and I still can't get it to boot.
I'm getting pretty tired of trying to get this to work. I might just refund my other 4GB kit and live with one 4GB set. 4GB should last a while, anyway.

I have a feeling if I had a 2x4GB set and put it in slots 1+3, it'd work. It seems to be something about combining 1+3 with 2 or 4 that my motherboard disagrees with, because I've tried getting my computer to run with 6GB of memory and that didn't work either.

Yeah, 8GB is useless unless you are a Video Editor anyway.

Is your NB maybe too hot when trying 8GB? Can you touch it for more then 10 seconds with your finger while you run memtest? I guess you would have to be able to run it though.....

These are all matched sets of ram bought at the same time right? I just ask because you mention trying 6GB. If your 2x2 sets are bought to far apart they may be different IC chips used in the ram and never work together

I edit videos sometimes, but nowhere near on a regular basis. And I guess since I used to edit videos on a system with 2GB of RAM, I'll be able to manage.

Anyway, yeah. They're two matched sets of 2x2. Bought them at the same time.
Thanks again for all the help. Do you think it'd help if I got a NB fan?

Ya, it for sure could help, as well as adding some more MCH if you aren't already too high

8GB for sure will work, just takes a bit more tweaking/time put in them 4GB
