  • Room for more performance: E7400 on GA-EP45-UD3P

I know I have room for more performance.. what would you change? Plenty stable at 3.6GHz using EasyTune 6, but I've heard that's not the best idea. Basically, all I've done is bump the E7400 to 9.0x @ 400FSB for 3.8GHz.

    Build:
    GA-EP45-UD3P
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
    Xigmatek S1283
    4GB Patriot Viper DDR2
    Antec 900
    PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W single-rail

    BIOS:
    * indicates the default setting
    EIST and C1E are disabled

Where do I start if my goal on the E7400 is 3.8GHz?

Short BIOS version: Everything is default except Multipler/FSB (9.0x400=3600MHz) and memory timings (4-4-4-4, 800MHz).

    Code:

    [B]Robust Graphics Booster[/B]: Auto*
    [B]CPU Clock Ratio w/ Fine adjustment[/B] 9.0x

    ***Clock Chip Control***

    [B]CAS Latency[/B]:4
    [B]tRCD[/B]: 4

I haven't tried anything new yet -- waiting on a response from the experts here.

Is there information I should post that would be useful, or is the explanation above and BIOS enough to go on?

Shameless bump. Is anyone able to give some advice?

        I'm persistent.. sooooo.. bump.

        I can get 3.7GHz @ 370FSB with 10x multiplier stable, but 3.8GHz @ 400FSB at 9.5 fails.

          (G)MCH Frequency Latch: 400
          System Memory Multiplier: 2.00D

          CPU Vcore: 1.35V

          MCH Core: 1.300V

Adjust the above settings and see if that helps.

I have almost the exact same configuration, just got everything today. I'll be using xp and 2gig of Patriot(non viper).
I won't be able to do much until the weekend and know very little about all the overclocking options. I plan do letting mine run stock for a day or two B4 I try any overclocks. Keep me posted on your progress.

Nickel020: those settings cause system instability. Even at a lower clock speed, I can't boot using those settings.

The settings in my OP still work for 3.6GHz, but as I mentioned, it's pretty low for this CPU.

Well the voltage settings shouldn't cause isntability. Neither should the memory settings I posted, they're pretty relaxed. Does it work if you select 2.0B?

Relatively stable at 3.6GHz with the settings you provided once I changed to 2.0B. However, Prime95 crashes after 9-10 hours when it reaches the 3072K test.

                  Any ideas?

A little more VCore maybe. 9-10 hours stable is perfectly acceptable, in all likelihood the PC will never crash in normal operation then.
What was your CPU temp after 1+ hours of prime and what program do you use to read them?

Also, what VCore does CPU-Z report under load?
