  • SPEED Up XP By Disabling Services

I don't know if folks in Australia get Tech TV, maybe some of you fortunate souls who have satellite television do, anyway, there was a very informative segment on The Screen Savers last week.

"Black Viper," a geek among geeks, was on the show and informed the viewers of the services in XP. Those of you running XP may have noticed that it's not as quick to boot as you'd like, this is because XP has over 80 services that can be running in the background at any time. A typical computer has 40 running, but most systems can get by using only 8 and this can free up a lot of ram.

I've only tried a few of these service fixes, so please reply with your results so that myself and others can see just how much tweaking these services can speed up a machine.

I've shut down another dozen services that are completely unecessary and I've found that my boot time actually improved by a few seconds. It's not much, but it will speed up the overall experience of XP.
