  • Ocz reaper HPC 1333Mhz seen as 1066Mhz

    Hi everyone,

I've just received a pair of 2x2GB OCZ Reaper HPC 1333Mhz memory kit.
The problem is that in Bios those memory module are seen as 1066Mhz.
Could you help me fix this? Thanks!

    My system is composed of:
    MB: Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R, rev.2, BIOS: vers.10
    Proc: Intel Q6600
    Video: Gainward 8800GT Golden Sample.

I don't think your PC can run the memory at that speed because memory can never be run faster than the "quad-pumped" FSB which is 1066 (real FSB is 266, but there are four pieces of data transferred every MHz which is why Intel markets it as 1066).

But to be sure, enter the BIOS, go to system memory multiplier and see if there's somehting bigger than 4.0 there (you would need 5.0). I think 4.0 Is the biggest one though. Memory speed is always a function of the FSB x System Memory Multiplier, in your case 266 x 4 = 1066. If there is nothing bigger than 4.0 available you can only increase memory speed by overclocking the FSB (i.e. overclocking the CPU, unless you lower the CPU multiplier as well). You would need 333 FSB (which is what newer Intel CPUs have) as 333 x 4 = 1333. This would raise your CPU Speed to 3GHz (333 x 9). You would need to raise your CPU voltage in BIOS to about 1.35V in order to overclock the CPU like this.

That is correct, some of the OCZ 1333Mhz modules are SPD programmed as 1066 - probably in main so that the PC will atleast boot from the outset.

Your maximum multiplier is 4.00x on this board, so with your 1066Mhz cpu, the most you can set the memory up to is 4 x 266 = 1066 too.
The only way to run your 1333Mhz memory at their advertised speed is to overclock your FSB and/or your CPU.

      So for instance:-

You would have to run the Cpu Host frequency at 333Mhz (rather than 266)
That would then make your Cpu muliplier Of x9 x 333 = 3.0Ghz.(cpu speed)
If you didn't want to overclock your Cpu that high, you could use the "Fine" multiplier adjustment (in later bioses) to decrement the multiplier by 0.5x steps.

      So for instance:-
      333 x a Cpu multiplier of x8, 333 x 8 = 2.67Ghz (cpu speed)
      or
      333 x a Cpu multiplier of x7.5, 333x7.5 = 2.5Ghz (cpu speed)
      GA-P35C-DS3R Rev2.0 F11 bios, E8200 (@3.0Ghz), OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Reaper 4GB (@1200Mhz), Xonar D1, 8800GTS 512, Corsair HX520 (Single 12volt line, Max 40A), WDC 3200aaks/5000aaks in AHCI mode, Vista 64 Premium.

        Thank you!
That's great. Im going to OC but first i will buy a good CPU cooler.
This kit is the first of four others kits with wich I could set the OC setting of the MB to the max. Windows is running fast.
        Thanks guys!
