  • Another GA-EP45-UD3R and G-Skill 4x2GB 1066 Ram Question.

I'm new to gigabyte and to ram/bios settings/timings. I've been combing these threads for the past two days, but I'm such a rookie. I'm trying to get my system to boot with 8gbs of ram. It boots fine with 4gbs( 2x2gb sticks), but when I try to use 4 x 2gb sticks I get the blue screen.

    What I have:

    GA-EP45-UD3R

your going to have to manually set the voltages/timings for your ram

        Re: Another GA-EP45-UD3R and G-Skill 4x2GB 1066 Ram Question.

Have you added MCH Voltage, if not try 1.24-1.34. If that does not help, try 1.0-1.05

You are sure all ram is good, just checking. If you are not sure, please set the above suggestions by me and mattlyall06 and test one stick at a time in slot one with memtest86+ >>>

Your suggestion cured my problem as well. I had set the DRAM voltage to 2.1 and upped the MCH to 1.24 which didn't help at all. However, lowering it to 1.05 got everything working.

1.24-1.34 and 1.05 was not successful. I didn't have a 1.0. I tried .95 and vista did load, but restarted after 30 seconds. It reset and instantly rebooted.

Have you tried running the RAM at DDR2 800? We should see if that works before you try running it at 1066Mhz.

What would I need to change to do that?

I tried to boot from cd/dvd memtest86+, but my pc would not boot the iso. It would revert back to booting from HDD.

I used nero burning rom to burn the image "MEMTEST"

                    Re: Another GA-EP45-UD3R and G-Skill 4x2GB 1066 Ram Question.

                    What I tested:

2 x 2gb sticks in sockets DDR2_2 and DDR2_4 have worked with my original settings from my first post on this thread.

I then removed these sticks from DDR2_2 and DDR2_4 and used the other 2 x 2gb sticks in sockets DDR2_1 and DDR2_3. The system would not boot to the OS.

I then put the second set of 2 x 2gb sticks in sockets DDR2_2 and DDR2_4 and my system booted fine into the OS.

Does this leave me to believe something is wrong with sockets DDR2_1 and DDR2_3 on my motherboard??

So no matter the memory slots 1 and 3 do not work? Even one stick at a time?

If so you may have some faulty slots.

I would plug your eSATA into the Gigabyte ports (Purple) and enable those ports in the BIOS >>>

                        Integrated Peripherals

Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ............. Enabled
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ........... IDE or AHCI (You may need to install the Giabyte AHCI Driver and program from the CD)

When I put a 2GB stick(the same stick that has worked in Dimm 2 and 4) into just Dimm 1 the system boots.

When I put that same 2gb stick into Dimm 3 the OS fails to load and I get a blue screen error, Page in nonpage area.

I pluged my sata cable into the purple bank and selected
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ...........AHCI
I got my external to be recognized in the OS, but I lost my dvd-rom, which was IDE.

Why doesnt the esata bracket work with the yellow bank of sata ports? My primary HDD runs off that bank.

Hi I've just joined to say I had exactly the same problem. Same mobo same memory, memory sticks ran fine(well still not perfect but it was stable enough)in memory slots 2&4 but not at all stable in 1&3 and system couldn't post at all and just repeatedly switching itself on and off until I powered it down manually. Luckily I had another p35 system here so I tried switching over system rams and viola both systems are running good now. I have even installed 4sticks of corsair xms2 rams on this board now and it's running flawlessly. I think this board is really picky about which ram you put on it.

Thanks for sharing your situation. I was able to get Newegg to do a RMA exchange, but I did not mention to Newegg that I cut the UPC from the Gigabyte box(I dont know if that matters, hopefully it doesnt). If they send me a board that acts the same with my ram, I guess I will try to exchange my ram thru Newegg. If they wont accept the ram I guess I will sell off one set of 2 x 2gb and stick with 4gb total ram.
