        Lsdme is offline for now. Bumping your thread keeps it on page 1, but Lsdme always starts with the oldest recent threads, so bumping it will delay his getting to you.

        If you want specific bios suggestions, we need the following.
        1) List your system components in your signature.
        --> User CP tab (upper left corner of web page)
        --> select Edit Signature
        --> preview
        --> Save when complete
        --> Bios version
        2) Link to your ram's full specifications.
        3) Fill in the generic bios template with your bios settings.
        --> Fill in Auto where appropriate.
        --> Change ?? values to the displayed settings in your bios, including the values shown in the voltages sections of this template.

        Code:
        Motherboard: Model, Rev#:
        Bios version: F??
        Cpu: Model
        Ram: Brand, Model/Part#, Link to your ram's specs
        Power Supply Unit: Brand, Model#, Wattage

        Default settings for new setups that are not overclocked.

        note: replace all ?? with the value displayed in your bios.
        ----> where appropriate replace Auto settings with manually set values

            Try copying the template and pasting it into a text editing program like Notepad.
            Enter your bios settings and save it on your hard drive.
            Copy your saved bios settings and paste all the text into the forum "Reply To Thread" box.

            Are you using the "Quick Reply" box or clicking on the "Post Reply" tab?

                  sorry about the ram OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 Gold Edition 4GB Dual Channel

                  ok so i tried your settings except for cpu at 1.36 and my stock ich i/o is 1.55 so i tried 1.57 like you said and my mem voltage is at 2.1(manufacturer specs)

                  problem: i get a bsod right after the windos vista loading bar
                  error: 0x00000005(i think thats the right about of 0's)

                  and is there a reason not to keep the mch strap at 400? is auto more stable?

                    Re: q6600 3.6ghz ep 45dsl help

                    The 2.66D memory multiplier uses the 400-strap.
                    Have you tried some of the different settings I suggested in my previous post?
                    CPU Vcore --------------- 1.????? ----- : [1.3250] <--- set to 1.4125
                    CPU Termination --------- 1.200V* ----- : [1.28] <--- set to 1.30 (higher may be needed)

                    MCH/ICH
                    MCH Core ---------------- 1.100V ------- : [1.16] <--- higher may be needed, do this last

                    Most 2x2GB ram runs best with MCH Core set to 1.24 - 1.26, but some ram will only run at or near 1.05 volts. Try increasing this in steps to see if you gain stability.
                    CPU Vcore might have to be increased to run at 3.60GHz.
                    CPU Termination is usually set at least 0.05 - 0.10 volts LOWER than CPU Vcore.

                    Your Q6600 is rated up to 1.50 volts, so you have some room to spare with trying somewhat higher cpu vcore settings.

                    Error 0x00000005 is an ACCESS VIOLATION and is probably related to incorrect voltage settings.

                    my 2 cents: I've seen other Q6600 setups at 3.60GHz with very high voltages. My preference is stop well before the point where very high voltages are required. In your case, running nearer to 3.40GHz might provide you with a nice compromise with performance versus high heat/temps. It's your call.

                      ich i/o 1.55 (stock setting) do i need to raise this? or can i just leave it on auto

                        EDIT: ran chkdsk no problems, ran the WD extended diagnostic hard drive test, Passed. so it doesn't mean its gonna die on me right?

                          Re: q6600 3.6ghz ep 45dsl help

                          Your hard disk is probably OK, I've seen error messages where NTOSKRNL might be corrupt when my bios settings weren't correct. Dropping back to a known stable setup proved that there weren't any problems.

                          If you're using the 2.66D memory multiplier, this could be part of the problem. Try using the 2.00B or 2.00D multipliers to eliminate your memory as a possible problem.

                          You're trying to jump to 3.60GHz in one big step. You'll be better off if you can get your system stable at 3.40GHz and then move up in smaller steps.
                          At 3.40GHz, you have several options:
                          9 x 378, memory = 2.40B x 378 = 907MHz
                          9 x 378, memory = 2.66D x 378 = 1008MHz (the D-strap might not work well below 400MHz)
                          8 x 425, memory = 2.40B x 425 = 1020MHz (this might not work with a 266MHz based processor)

                          Another approach would be to start with 8 x 400MHz and see how far you can go with 10MHz increases.

                            cpu vcore 1.493 something(just one under 1.5) 1.44 in windows
                            cpu termination 1.44(is that too high)

                            ich i/o auto

                            the last core fails after like 20 seconds.
