  • EP45-UD3P can't oc RAM over 1400

I have a kit Transcend aXe 1200 1GBx2. At cas 5, it need only 2.54V to pass Pi 1M at 680MHz. When I raise the vdimm to 2.6,2.7,2.8V, it never pass Pi 1M at 690MHz, but can be valided at max 702 MHz.

At cas 6, I meet the same problem, only 2.2V to reach 670MHz and 2.3V to pass 680Mhz. But 2.5V can't pass 690Mhz

I don't understand some dram voltages reference and I think this is problem. I alway set auto to the settings. Can't somebody help me to ajust these Voltages?

    This is my setting:

Have you tryed givin' MCH more voltage? Like 1.28-1.30V or even higher? Also, try setting tRD (Static tRead Value) manually and changing strap to B or D. The lower the strap is, the higher the stress on the MCH. And your quest for higher memory frequency makes it even harder for the MCH to handle all that.

      Many thank

I also change strap to 4.0B and set tRD to 10, but it is unuseful. Then, I set vNB to 1.4 and now I can Pi 1M at 690MHz (1.3V also can't Pi), vdimm 2.3V (6-6-6-18).

I think tRD is Performance Lever. So the higher the tRD is, the higher DRAM I can reach? But in my mobo, I can't boot with the tRD set to 11 or higher

      More problem, I can't see the strap 4.0D in both bios F9 and F10b, EP45-UD3P rev1.1 :(

        Re: EP45-UD3P can't oc RAM over 1400

Unfortunatelly, there isn't a 4.0D strap. 3.33D is the higher you can get on D strap.
Indeed, tRD is also refered to as Performance Level. Yes, it is possible that if you set a higher tRD you could overclock more than with a lower one, but that is because the stress you put one the MCH is lower with a higher tRD, and also depends of the voltage you are willing to apply.
Take a look at this very interesting article, it sure helped me a lot improve my timings and overall system performance: AnandTech: ASUS ROG Rampage Formula: Why we were wrong about the Intel X48

that is some kind of d9 ram that is no longer made yes?

perhaps the board + extreme voltage ram just dont work well together.

nhuhoang, why you didn't try with different Multiplier and Bus Speed;eg...
            9x438 (with 5:8 strap 333)
            Sample:
            VDimm=2.56v

              Re: EP45-UD3P can't oc RAM over 1400

Thank all, but I can't Pi at 700MHz with vdimm up to 2.8V, strap 4.0B and 3.2B (5:8), vNB 1.44V, tRD 9 (max value bootable). Does these below setting effect my result?

              MCH/DRAM Refernce [ 0.900 ]...................[ auto ] (1.1V not boot)

The Dram ref voltages if you use them are supposed to be up to 50% of the Dram voltage.
ie for 2.2v 1.1v max should work or 2.8v 1.4v ref max.
