  • Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

    Hello ;)

    Heya everyone!

So this is my first time on forums that are english, And i came here because seems alot of peopel here resolve and help out when it comes to issues and overclocking.

I recently bought an new motherboard, Ep45-ds5, And somehow i doesnt want me to get Dual channel running with my memories.

Memories are Crucial Balistix Pc-6400 2x2GB, I been using them on a ep35 ds3 and ds4, also did work on a Xfx nforce 780i and on a ep45 ds3. But on the Ds5 it doesnt seem to work. And my Corsair pc8500 4x1GB didnt work either on dual channel.

Only way to get them to run is either single ram 2GB in Dim 1 or 2, or using both in dim 1 and 2 > runnings single channel ;(

The PC reboots and starts wich black screen, after couple of seconds same circus all over. I ran Memtest86 with no issues, and i basicly tought it was my motherboard wich didnt work as supposed, So i got a new one, same model from the same company and still wont work.

So question is if its the memorys or the motherboard.

    The pc itself is this:

    E0 Quad 9550 2.83Ghz Stcok > running 4.0Ghz
    Ep45-DS5
    Thermalright 120 Extreme + Noctua P12-1300
    Gainward 275GTX
    Crucial Balistix Pc-6400 2x2GB > running 1000 mhz 2,1 v 5-5-5-15 timings
    Coolermaster Realpower 850
    2x Seagate 320GB 16 cache
    Antec 900 + 3x Noctua S12-1200
    Schyte Kama Fan Controller

Any help atm would be great, Thanks and take care.

    Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Are these the 2.2V Crucial or 2.0V ones? I know for sure the 2.0V ones work just fine in dual channel, I did a review on two sets of them (See Signature for review)

If you are not sure of the model # or the rated Voltage can you please post me a screenshot of CPU-z SPD Tab.

I do know some issues were present with the 2.2V rated ones, that is why they switched chips and started making the 2.0V ones.

I can help for sure either way, just trying to gather some more info before I advise you a little bit, could just be settings.

      Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

So i made a screen shot.

Im not sure why them wont start, Iv tried random settings, with 800 mhz 2 x yellow slots, and nothing. Tried to get volt up too 2.0 and little above and still nothing.

      Thanks for you time

        Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Have you tried the other slots? Just wondering, you should be fine using the yellow ones as they are the correct ones to use.

That is the exact ram I reviewed. I posted several sets of settings in my review for Gigabyte and Crucial users. Have you had a chance to look over the review and settings I posted.

If you haven't read it yet, please do. Then if you find it has not helped you any please go ahead and give me your settings in full that you are trying and I will advise back

          Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Thanks for you time once again.

Iv done the settings that are standard for the crucials 2x2GB with the settings you used in ur review. I followed everything exaclty and nothing, keeps rebooting everytime, Doesnt get any thing on screen and fans running on max.

Also i tried to put the memories in yellow slots wich are dual and of course the red aswell. And keeps rebooting. Also above > i followed ur bios specs and the ones i was supposed to fill out, the pc just keeps doing the same, Reboots then dies, reboots and then dies.

So now to the questions u gave me

          CPU = Model # Inte Core 2 Quad 9550 Revison is E0
          Motherboard = Model Gigabyte Ep45-DS5 Revision 1.0
          BIOS Version = F12, Also tried F10 + F9
          Ram = Crucial Balistix Pc6400 2x2GB / Stock timings 4-4-4-12 and Stock volt 2.0

Thats all i know atm, seems to me as i will have to change the rams, I talked to the ppl from the store i got the motherboard, and they said it could be the rams that arent supported.

            Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Well I wanted to have you post back the settings you are trying that fail, that is a blank template above so you can do so. Then I will post back settings for you to change and try

The ram is supported for sure, fully as you can see in my review. The board is the same as your's minus a LAN and 2 SATA Ports. Crucial sent me those sets just for the purpose of making sure they both worked in Gigabyte boards.

Are you setting your own Memory Multi, if so which? Also the same for tRD (Static tRead Value), what are you setting?

Are you overclocking your CPU at all or not? If you are, are you sure it is stable and what is your FSB?

Have you ran Memtest86+ on each stick one by one at stock settings? That would be manually set Ram voltage 2.0, manually set Memory multi 2.40B (FSB at 333), manually set Ram Main timings 444-12 and everything else on auto? I would run the test 5-10 passes on each stick to be sure they are not faulty

              Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

I want to overclock, but too get the rams first to work i cant, so i used what u said i should.

Im not sure why, but my Girlfriends Ep45ds3 > runs the crucial memories.
Without any problems. And this motherboard is new since yesterday, i picked it up "second time" bc i though it didnt work as supposed, but now i seen alot of ppl Running the OCZ HPS memories wich do seem work. Not sure, Memtest, That takes alot of time if im not wrong? And atm im busy ;(
Have had so much trouble past week, im going nuts soon.

                Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Memtest86+ will take you about maybe 1-1 1/2 hours altogether, that's for each stick to test 5-10 separately. it depends on your CPU Overclock if any though, could be less or more.

The ram for sure works fine on your model of board, trust me.

I see some VERY OFF Settings, maybe that is your issues?

                  Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

                  Thanks for your help

But it failed. Rebooted, didnt work, pc died, rebooted and circuls maximus is up an running again ;)

I maybe should change rams? Memories arent to expensive, and seems mine wont work either, If this wont get sorted, id gladly take a suggiestion ;)

                    Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

Can you test those sticks on another PC as stated above, or on yours one at a time? This way we know for sure if they are faulty or not? The above settings should work fine, you did set the higher of the values I noted out right?

Here try the above but make these changes and see if it will boot through or not, if not please test them one by one on your board or another.

Very odd, I would guess that the ram may be faulty then?

Can you please test it on your setup one stick at a time or on your girlfriends setup?

                          Re: Ep45-ds5 / Memory issues

yea it does work with a single ram in Dim 1,2 but not 3,4

Thast when i use a single ram stick, Both work that way.

And dual channel works at my GFs pc, and not on mine

Does it pass Memtest86+ 5-10 full passes or overnight (Best)?

Works is not the same as stable and in full working order, you must test with Memtest86+ to be absolutely sure before you try to decide if it is the ram or the board.
