  • MA770-UD3P power supply

    Hello all,
I've got a ma770 and am about to build. Besides the usual 24 plug for the power supply, I've noticed an 8 plug addition instead of the usual 4 plug. My power supply only has a 4 plug. I've read the 8 is for cpus that require 125w, mine does not require that. SO my question is, where does the 4 plugin go.
Looking at it as it sits in the case, (north to south). Does it go in the top 4 or the bottom 4?
    Thanks in advance,
    best regards,
    cuda

This is if you have a GA-MA770T-UD3P
Per your instructions you should plug the 2x2 into pins 3478 which is the upper one. Pins 1256 is for 2x4 12v only. The lower one should have come with a protective cover. Look in the manual page 22

      Re: MA770-UD3P power supply

Thank you, I did see that in the printed manual but could not make sense out of it, it is clear to me now. My MB did not have any protective covers on any outlets though. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Hope to have it up and running this weekend, pairing it with the Phenom II X2 550. Will post if i can unlock the other cores and/or stable OC as I have read some really good things about both items.

        Re: MA770-UD3P power supply

Board is up and running fine, first time. The only issue was those tiny front usb wires, what a pain on any board. I have not tried any OC or unlock, it is running super fast as is. The only question would be to update the bios as it is saying in the spec program that the core is a kuma instead of callisto. gigabyte address this in the latest bios. but they also say, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. which I have always subscribed to in life.
        thanks again..

            Re: MA770-UD3P power supply

For future reference for anyone using the search function and finding this thread, a 4 pin CPU power connector will only fit one way into an 8 pin socket. The connections are keyed so that it's impossible to insert them incorrectly.

              Re: MA770-UD3P power supply

That is correct, plus on this board, the clip that the 4 plug engages to secure it, is on the rear back plate side so that helps without having to look very close at the different square configurations. It basically will only go in one way. Thanks..

I would love to say its impossible, but I have seen it done before. I have also seen the extra 4 pins from the 20+4 connector squeezed into the 4pin socket. the plastic is soft and will simply bend out of place if pushed hard enough.

Yes, I certainly can not deny that someone could/would make it fit, but for a brief moment I presumed that everyone paid a slight bit of attention. My bad..ha.

A very true statement that counjured up an image of someone using a large hammer to plug a 6+2 PCIe connector into a P8 socket.
