I have just ordered my new x58 setup. I bought Gigabyte x58 UD3R and I didnt notice that there doesnt read it would support 1600mhz RAM, and so I bought OCZ 3channel 6gb 1600mhz DDR3 kit. Will it work?

Sure there is, memory list says it support up to 2000Mhz.
Just wait and see if it work or not.

      This is what i c "- 4 x DDR3 DIMM (1.5 Volt) (max. 16GB)
      - DDR3 800/1066/1333/2000+" so I would really like to know

        Re: help

If it can do 2000+ it should be able to handle 1600.

You might have to underclock it to 1333MHz in BIOS to make it stable. Good luck.

            Re: help

I'm not 100% up to speed with Core i7, but I think that to get the RAM running at DDR3-1600 you need to either raise base clock (ie overclock) or have an extreme edition CPU with an unlocked uncore. As BIOS's are constantly evolving (eg allowing the extra multi that turbo gives to simply be selectable as a multiplier value) I'm not sure if this is still the case.

High speed kits like that really need to be able to run on low voltages. Ideally 1.65-1.75V, the lower the better. Too much RAM voltage, strangely, can kill a Core i7 CPU. Not sure precisely of the reason, but probably because of the MCH being on die.

If you could post a link to the exact RAM you've ordered we can advise further. If the stuff requires something like 1.8V+ to do its rated spped, I'd recommend returning it for another set. As it comes as a tripple channel setup and only Core i7 supports tripple channel ATM, I'd be 99% sure it is indeed low voltage stuff, which is great.

Yeah its OCZ Triplechannel kit DDR3 6gb 1600Mhz low voltage 1.65V
Plus, I found out that 1600mhz fits on UD3R. One other site said DDR3 1066/1333/1600/2000 Mhz

                Re: help

In that case I would say the RAM will be OK.

As always, there is a chance of problems. It's just the nature of PC's and the fact that they're modular. Even the best tested of components can interact incorrectly with one another in some circumstances.

As detailed in my last post, the board will definitely support up to DDR3-2000, however you may need to overclock, as an unlocked uncore is needed to set higher than 1066 on an i7 920, unless you increase base clock. For example with a bclk set to 200 from the stock 133, the multiplier that gave you 1066 at stock will now give 1600 and the multi that gave 1333 (if selectable) now gives 2000 etc.

Lsdmeasap may be better at explaining this, and also other i7 owners. I don't have much first hand experience with that architecture, unfortunately.

Let us know how you get on with the build. If you encounter issues, there are loads of people here that would be happy to help you.
