  • UD3LR 8gb memory crash

Alright ever since i opened it out of the box the PC would be incredibly unstable with 4 sticks of ram in. So i decieded to remove the last stick of RAM from slot 4.
The mode chagned to FLEX instead of Interleaved :(, but it runs stable i think the slot is broke. Though i would appreciate some help.

I did send a email to Gigabyte but they havent responded in 2 days :(

The BSOD were as follows not in order

    Driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal
    0xd1
    ACPI.sys

    System_service_exception(while playing a game)
    0x3b
    Nvlddm?

    another one with win32k.sys

    also Page_fault_in_non_paged_area or similar

This by the way is my first build.

    Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

    Seems like a memory problem.
    Load optimized defaults.
With with 4 memory modules you probably need more MCH Core. Try 1.2v, 1.24-1.26v may be needed.
Find a template that match your board in the forum (sorry I'm on my laptop, don't have the links here,) fill it with your own settings, the suggested and actual settings, and post it back wraped with code tags (select the text and click the # icon on the top of the post editor.)
A screen capture of MemSet window (click >> to show both channel, and SPD (click spd,) and EasyTune advanced voltage settings will be helpful too.

Please fill your signature with your system spec and link to your memory page for better reference.

        Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

There are some inconsistancies between the EasyTune and the settings, MCH Core for example, I don't know what to think, please review the template. There are some settings missing like Advanced Clock Control. They are not realy relevant but may indicate if you have started by loading optimized defaults. Also Extreme Memory Profile is missing, and it is relevant. Same goes to System Memory Multiplier and (G)MCH Frequency Latch, please add them.

You can use the template in this post, even though it states it is for EP43-UDxx, it seems it has all that is applicable to your board and even more.

Before you do any chnages save current setting profile. In BIOS main screen press F11 and save the settings in an empty slot. Later they can be loaded with F12.

One thing in your settings that may be a problem is the Static tRead Value.
If you haven't load optimized defaults, it is advised that you do so.
Set Performance Enhance to standard, memory voltage manually and MCH Core to 1.2v (1.24-1.26v may be needed.)

As you can see in the SPD XMP#1 profile, the advanced settings could be even tighter. Therefore my suggestion is to set XMP on auto or select an XMP profile and leave DRAM timings on auto, standard and advanced, unless you realy know what you are doing, otherwise it is just guessing.

I suggest XMP profile auto/profile1(whatever it shows there) DRAM Timing Selectable manual, all timings on auto, Static tRead Value 9(you may lower it later,) and see how that goes.

If you decide to make these changes, please post an updated template and a screan capture of MemSet main window (no need for SPD,) and EasyTune again.

Alright after setting it all according to what you say i will test it with the 4th RAM peice in here are my settings

          Optimized settings

          As per your request settings

like i said in the settings gigabyte said to bumb up the dram voltage to 1.6v
and to "change the system memory multiplier, change it to 1066 if it is configured as 1333"
but my ram is 1333 memory i want 1333 memory

You want DDR-1333 - you got it! No need to change anything.
Relax, everything is just fine, look at memory line in MemSet, says 667MHz. It's a DDR (Double Data Rate) so it's 667x2-1334, it's all good.
You also got the right timings from XMS profile 8-8-8-21.
Set DRAM Voltage auto and see if it sets it to 1.6(go to BIOS HW Monitor after saving BIOS and see what it is.) If it's not 1.6v set it manually to 1.6 as your memory requires.

If everything is stable with the fourth module. try the Static tRead to auto.
Basically there's no more changes you need to do, unless you still have problems.
              Keep is posted.

Well that I leave for you to decide, There is no much difference between 1066 and 1333 with 333FSB.
If you want 1333 leave it on auto as before, if you want 1066 you may even set tCL to 7 or even 6 manually (BIOS attempts to keep this value no matter what memory speed it,) but to tell you for sure I'll need your memory SPD profile.
The timings are changed according to memory speed, this is perfectly normal.

EDIT: BTW, no need for SPD window anymore, it was only needed once, it never changes :-)

                    Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

well when i set it to 1333 it crashes how can i use 1333 stable.

Also could you help me get the bios tweaked so i can get the most out of my components?

First lets see we can get you stable, then tweaking if needed.
Try a little more MCH Core, 1.24-1.26v, I am not sure how up should you have for 4 modules, it may be more, but we need someone who knows better than me to comment on it.
If 4 modules still fail at 1333, we need to try and isolate the problem, may be settings problem, or a bad stick or motehrboard.
Mark the memory sticks so you know which you tested and which not.
Try the sticks from slots 1 & 3 (2 sticks only) in slots 2 & 4. If they work O.K. try the sticks that are now in slots 2 & 4 in slots 1 & 3.
What I am trying to find is is it a problem with slot 4 or one of the memory stick you put in it.
If all tests above work, it's probably not the memory or the board (memtest86+ may be needed to know for certain) and we'll have to work more on the settings.

what i did was i have all 3 in with it set to 1333, then i switch them for slot four and which ever configuration i have it becomes unstable ill try again with your suggestions

                        for example

                        sticks are 1 2 3 4
                        slots are a c b d
                        123 in acb
                        234 in acb
                        any in acb works
once 123 or 4 in slot d it crashes

                          Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

                          ok the sticks i have 1 2 3 and 4 the slots are a_c b_d
                          1 and 2 work in both a/b and c/d
                          3 and 4 work in both a/b and c/d

i could mix it up more but i think this will suffice
each time i player cod5 at least for 5 minutes, usually with the instability it would crash within a few minutes 2-3.

The mch is at 1.2v ill try 1.26v with the 4 on 1333 ill edit in about 5

alright at 1333 with all sticks in MCH core or 1.26-1.30v dram volatage at 1.6v
it would reboot before the windows loading screen, no bsod just monitor goes to orange and bios reinitialized.

                            Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

According to the link you gave the RAM is rated at 1.65V but you're only giving it 1.6V. Voltage does get more important when you're running 4 sticks, I noticed that with two 2x2GB DDR2 1066 mysself. Both kits on their own would run fine at 2.1V, but when I ran both kits together I needed 2.2V.
So increase the voltage to 1.65V or if that doesn't help try 1.7V (won't hurt the RAM, the 1.65V is only there because Intel says anything mroe than that will damage their Core i7 CPUs with the integrated memory controller, and you're not running one).

                              Re: UD3LR 8gb memory crash

Just got off work, but as i understand it they tested it at 1.65v but i will definitely try it maybe in the morning.
                              Thank you for your input.

Alright i decided to do some tests before rest heres what i came to,

Mch core settings from 1.2 to 1.26
mixed with DRAM voltage from 1.6 to 1.7 (they go by .020v at a time so no 1.65 only 1.62 1.64 so on.)
each time with the same result monitor goes to standby pc resets.

One time with dram v at 1.7 and mch core at 1.24 after post the screen just stayed on no windows no anything blackness.
I dont know where to go from here.

                              Thank you for your help
