  • UD3P and Q9550 Overclock Problems

I have been fighting this combination of hardware for several days. I have a UD3P R1.6 MB, a Corsair 620 PS, a Q9550 E0 cpu, 2X2Gig of Mushkin 1066 (599) memory, an XFX GTS 250 (1 Gig) video card, a couple of WD 500 Gig HD's and a couple of DVD burners - one PIDE and the other SATA. After looking at "andypepp's" bios settings I have been able to get past the 440 FSB. However 500 is like a brick wall. I would like to post all my bios setting but don't know how to get it in a file. So short of making a manual txt file of all my settings is there a program or some trick that will help me get the information so I can share it in this thread and hopefully someone can sow me the way to 3.8!? Thanks in advance.

Forgot to include the bios version -FB and make that PIDE into PATA.

have you read this post?q9550-ud3p-part-deux-quest-500-fsb Its based on the 1.0-1.1 version of the board but for overclocking its the same. For a bios temp click link in my sig. You have to right down all bios settings on a paper then enter them in temp. Also get the lates bios form this link. gigabyte-latest-bios. The latest beta version is FDa for your board.

Post back your full bios settings and there are a bunch of us that could help you with your overclock.

Re: UD3P and Q9550 Overclock Problems

One more piece of equipment information I left out - I am using a Zalman CNPS 9700 NT cpu cooler. Ok. I downloaded the latest bios -but I'm not all that ready to use a beta version unless it addresses a specific problem that I am experiencing. I'm slow on the OC forum beat - I need a little more help in getting my bios settings in a format that I can share. Can you guide me with a more detail. Just to put it in perspective how the @#$% do I get to "your sig" and get or do whatever with the bios settings? I think I've looked at and used pieces from every Q9550 OC'ing thread on the internet and am getting closer to a winner, I think. I got spoiled by my abit IP35Pro MB. I installed an E6750 set the memory voltage and timings and increased the FSB and was happy at 3.2+. I guess the Q9550 and UD3P requires a little/lot more understanding of what is going on.

I feel pretty dumb. I went here http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...ettings-33613/ and found the UD3P template. I now plug in my settings and then how do I paste this into a forum reply?

Select all text and copy, then the # icon in post editor toolbar and paset(ctr+v) the text between the code tags.

Re: UD3P and Q9550 Overclock Problems

These are my less than totally stable specs. Seems like I can run OCCT and Prime95 stress tests with no apparent problems but for some reason it don't always come back from sleep mode until the BIOS resets to 333 FSB
etc. I have also stopped trying to get beyond the 445 FSB. Help is needed!

I had waking problems when overclocked to 3.6GHz, 3.4GHz and below woke up just fine, even though it's not listed it seems the latest BIOS update fixed it (not sure)

Re: UD3P and Q9550 Overclock Problems

To make it easier for us, please include your hardware list in your forum signature.
If your bios is similar to my rev 1.0 mobo, Legacy USB storage Detect is the 7th item from the top in the Integrated Peripherals screen.

Your memory should run fine at 2.02 volts.
CPU PLL = 1.57 might help.
Static tRead Value (tRD) = 8 should be stable, if not tRD = 9 should be OK (lower is better).

I don't know if any of these settings will help with the wake from sleep issue.

First thing Is the system 100% stable at stock speeds? Can you resume from sleep at stock speeds? If you are stable but can not resume from sleep at stock I would suggest getting the updated bios. If you can resume from sleep at stock then yes something needs to be tweaked. Like Profjim said try 1.57 Cpu Pll. also try upping cpu termination aka vtt up at notch or 2. Vcore seems also high what is the vid of your chip does it need all that?

Edit - also remove all usb devices except keyboard and mouse and try to resume from sleep some usb devices can stop this.

I changed the CPU PLL to 1.57 and lowered the DRAM voltage to 2.04. I'll go to 2.02 if I don't get anymore blue screens. The sleep wake up problem does not seem to be there at lower FSB settings...OR...at least the last time I had the problem when I thought I had a stable system I had left CPU-Z running. I don't know if that could be the culprit. All I really know is that Vista was able to show me messages trying to start back up that I have never seen before and then I have to power down and the BIOS resets to 333 FSB!! I really don't want to break any speed records so what is a reasonable Vcore voltage? CPU-Z says the CPU is running at 1.34V under load at 8X445. Why is that so much lower that the Vcore I have in the BIOS (1.3875)?

The system is stable a stock speeds and seems to wake up normally. This last time I had the problem I had left CPU-Z running. I don't know it that caused the problem but I sure saw a lot of new messages from Vista before it gave up and the BIOS reset the FSB to 333. I did change the CPU PLL voltage to 1.57 and lowered the DRAM voltage to 2.04. I'll go to 2.20 if there are no blue screens. There are no USB devices attached to this system.

It's not much, with 1.25v CPU Voltage in BIOS under load my vcore is 1.168v, almost 0.1v less.

Things are looking up. I have run OCCT for 10+ minutes at these setting and it looks pretty good. Whatever you guys told me to change seems to have done the job. The cpu temps max at 50C and the Vcore voltage hangs around 1.28V with a max of 1.30V. Thanks all, I really appreciate the speedy responses. My next questions are: Is the Vcore voltage still too high (1.36875V) for 3.6? 3.8?, Should I lower the ICH I/O and ICH Core to normal?
