X58-UD5 turbo mode problem

Hi there, A new build for my brother is prime95 blend stable for 24 hours,
but when I go and turn Turbo Mode on, prime95 blend gives me a BSOD 124 within a minute.

I tried raising QPI/Vtt, as well as lowering - with no effect.
(Tried as low as 1.295, and the system stops booting after login - Tried up to 1.415 still getting BSOD)

I should also note that I've had the processor up to 4200Mhz (bclk 200 x 20, turbo mode on, many more volts than what is listed below, etc, prime95 small FFT for 24 hours -- but Prime95 *blend* causes a BSOD)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

When you turn Turbo on you will have to increase vCore and possibly others just the same as if you increased your bclk by about ten.
You are increasing your clock speed my 200 megahertz and voltages must be adjusted accordingly - at least that is my experience. Ain't no such thing as free lunch.

Did you mean Turbo CPU or Performance Enhance?

Either way BSOD 124 is QPI/Vtt.

Since you are running tight timings like that you may need more then you are trying. I would try IOH 1.24-1.26 and QPI/Vtt around 1.42-1.46.

I did find that at certain points Mushkin memory, as always, sometimes using less memory voltage and indeed not more as one would expect is best. For example to run this kit under spec timings, I of course had to add a little bit of voltage, but to run this kit at 2000Mhz+ I had to keep ram voltage at 1.66 or less. More would cause instability

Since you are getting memory related errors you may need to try x16 or x18 uncore as well, some CPU's don't like the Odd value uncores. Just another thought I thought might help you out, but I do think you just need a bit more of the above mentioned voltages. I used x18 Uncore in the above tests

Thanks for the reply! I'm talking 'bout Turbo CPU (boy we need a better term, it seems like everyone gets confused one way or the other with TurboCPU v. Performance enhancement!). (PET is enabled [turbo, instead of standard or extreme] in this bios as well.) I will give those voltages a whirl tomorrow and report back! (I used x17 uncore, btw because this: http://images.tweaktown.com/imageban..._%28ENG%29.pdf suggested x2 +1 ...)

Yes, sometimes x17 uncore is better, I just noted that sometimes also some CPU's don't like odd uncore multi's.

Try the settings out and let me know how you get along, you should not need the extra ram volts though since you set it rated at 676-18, but the others may be spot on for you

Wanted to get back to you with settings that worked. Here's what I did:

IOH 1.20 -> 1.24
VTT 1.355 -> 1.435
Turbo -> enabled
Prime 95 blend ... BSOD 124, almost immediately

IOH 1.24 -> 1.26
VTT 1.435 -> 1.455
Prime 95 blend ... BSOD 124, almost immediately

LoadLine Cal -> Enabled
Prime 95 blend ... Ran for ~45 min, froze

vcore 1.2875 -> 1.30v
Prime 95 blend ... ran for 4h50m, froze

vcore 1.30v -> 1.30625v
Prime 95 blend ... ran for 48 hours ... until I stopped it. :)

its odd how I didn't need LLC at my house while setting up the system, but when I moved it to my brother's house I did. (both locations have UPSes - both APC, but different models. I'm wondering if power line quality is an issue in overclocking, as opposed to just power *supply* quality...)

Hmm, very odd findings.

I guess it could be the supplied power, but not sure?

So what IOH and QPI/Vtt did you end up using, and are you sure those are the same used at your brothers?

Er sorry - I posted the changes as I made and tested so as a single set of changes for stability:
